Volunteering opportunities during the Summe for 17 yrs old?

Postby Paulette » Fri May 19, 2023 9:49 am

Hello, My niece would love to volunteer for a charity for instance this summer.
Could anyone help me find out where I could see such opportunities being listed? Is there a website where charities advertise?
Thanks a lot!

Hi

You could have a look on the Do It website
https://doit.life/volunteer

Or possibly a local foodbank, City Harvest or the Felix Project

Her age might be a stumbling block though as many organisations prefer their volunteers to be 18+ for safeguarding reasons.

Wishing her the best of luck.

The Lady Allen KIDS (charity) playground is always looking for people to work with the children that have disabilities over the summer.   Its paid work and a lot of young people have summer jobs there.

(Google the playground to get email contact details)

Volunteering at your local charity shop is always a great idea :) I volunteered at The Salvation Army as a teenager.

My son needed to organise some volunteering for his DofE but after extensive research we discovered that most charities will not take on under 18s for safeguarding reasons. The only ones that do are the Shelter charity shops - there is one on Northcote Road and one on the Pavement in Clapham Old Town - and I believe that Barnados shops may also do so.

You can also register with Lambeth Council to receive weekly emails that post local volunteering opportunities, though I have yet to see one that accepts under 18s. info@email.lambeth.gov.uk

There may be opportunities for under 18s if an adult is prepared to volunteer alongside them. Last year my son and I volunteered together at the Moonwalk which was a great mum and son experience.
