Fox in through bedroom window last night

Postby Annabel (admin) » Thu Sep 07, 2023 9:43 am

WIth permission I am sharing a neighbour's incident with a fox last night. Please take care.

'Last night we had a fox come into our house through a bedroom window (luckily bedroom was empty). It made a mess all over the room and the bed, chewed through a pair of shoes, a watch and attempted a leather hip flask. It also went downstairs and made more mess in our kitchen.

This is quite distressing as our 8 month old was sleeping in the room across the hall with her door open'

This follows an incident that they experienced last summer when a fox came into their house via their kitchen and went upstairs.

That is terrifying. Good to know that you are all ok. We had our bedroom windows all wide open last night but how else are we supposed to sleep? I find foxes scary even on the streets let alone in my house.

Has this been reported to the council? I am confused as to why they don't do anything about the fox infestation? Our household experience is limited to bin mess but this is another level and potentially very dangerous. Glad that everyone involved is OK.

Foxes are a nightmare in Balham, they are everywhere, the constant noise at night, the mess they make on bin collection day, the constant poo in the garden, pests

They're just looking for food like any other animal. There's a cute 1 which presses it's nose against my kitchen doors, I give it some bits and off it goes. No harm done.

Indeed, it cdve been a burglar!

I’m so sorry to read this. Regardless of anyone’s opinion on foxes in general, this must have been terrifying. How did it manage to access a first floor window please? Was there a garden wall or a flat roof? Knowing this would help the rest of us work out how likely it is a fox could access our property in a similar way. Thank you.
