Weather looking iffy - what to do?

Postby Annabel (admin) » Sat Nov 12, 2011 9:16 am

Hi Everyone
The weather is looking a bit iffy so if you have any suggestions for what to do this weekend, (could be for family, with partner or on your own ) please post it here. I will select one by Sunday evening and a bottle of champagne to the winner by MONDAY evening :-)

Good luck

On Sundays, the Tate Britain has an extensive Art Trolley for children- plus it's free! Lots of different craft media, disappear into the gallery with your tray of tissue paper, crayons, glue, modeling clay etc etc and either go free style or follow the idea from one of the worksheets they hand out.

They take a photo of your child/ren with their finished creation that may be put on their website and then you can take your creation home. An interesting trips for the adults too! Good for little ones too and the cafe is quite good - bit hectic but does the sandwich box idea for the kiddies and nice soups / tarts. The shop is fab.

To be honest, I don't think I can beat the above suggestion (will definitely keep that in mind!), but on rainy days I love hopping on the bus up to South Kensington and going to either the Natural History Museum or the Science Museum. My toddler loves the Science Museum in particular, as it's got three interactive areas he really enjoys: the Garden in the basement (with water play and giant lego bricks, plus lots more), the smaller section called the Pattern Pod on ground floor, and the Launch Pad on the top floor which is brilliant for both adults and children. There's ice skating now at the NHS (and a carousel as well) if you fancy getting into the spirit of Christmas this early!

Annabel, have you been on the G & T's a tad early? I've been on court all day and it's so warm it's ridiculous for mid-November. Going cycling tomorrow without the rain jacket too ;)

Still competition's a great idea don't think I can add to that except that going to Tate Modern via riverboat is great for everyone. Carry on to Greenwich, markets & lunch. Then walk under the Thames through the foot tunnel and see the new City from the DLR.

That way there's plenty of options if the weather does turn

For families you can't beet British Transport Museum in Covent Garden - it's free :D for kids and each adult ticket is valid for as many return visits as you like for a whole year!! :D :D
Loads for children to do - a trail to follow and enough vehicles to sit on + plenty of interesting stuff for the grown ups too!
Good cafe and they're happy for you to sit with your own packed lunches.

Also every saturday from now until Christmas there are reindeer in the piaza for children to pet!

We usually then walk down Whitehall and look at horesguards parade then try to time it right for Big Ben!

You're all right - the weather wasn't iffy in the end!

Picked totally at random by Patches the hamster (don't ask!) the winner is Magdalen.

So, Magdalen, just ping me a mail at annabel@nappyvalleynet.com and I'll sort out the fizz for you :-)

Thanks everyone...
