Ice cream wars set to start on the Northcote Road

Postby Scrooge_in_SW11 » Wed Dec 14, 2011 12:51 pm

Has anyone else noticed that the old Italian deli on the corner is quickly becoming a gelati parlour? That will give us 2 exclusive, ice cream vendors within 100 yards of each other (and that excludes the Portugese cafe which I believe also sells fresh ice cream - so really 3).

So now we are a road of:

Estate agents
Coffee shops
General retailers
Bars
Restaurants
...and latterly, ice cream parlours!

I wonder if some market research has been conducted recently (in the area?) which suggests we need more ice cream here or whether it is a simple correlation that kids = ice cream profits? Interesting...

Don't forget the card/gift shops and ridiculously expensive clothes shops!

Forgot about those...thanks for reminding me. I only go to Crew Clothing though to buy the odd shirt or 5 but they are getting pricey too at £50+ each for a casual, yet smart'ish, shirt.

My wife goes to a couple of the clothes shops but only when there is a sale on (or at least, that is what she tells me)!!

We're not quite as bad as Upper Richmond Road J/W Putney Bridge Road. 8 yes 8 estate agents side by side with another 4 on the other side of the road. That could be some sort of record (which no high street wants to hold).

Hi Julian - I don't know that area particularly well to be honest with you but it does sound a bit boring to have so many agents in one run of commercial property. Mind you, I still think I would rather have a smart Hamptons estate agents window in place rather than an overpriced, poor customer focused, run-down & tatty carpet shop - I reserve the right to change my mind if another 3-4 move in to the same row of commerical properties though! But I guess if Brangelina are actually residing for the time being in Richmond then this may have something do with it.

All I can end with is, "hold on to your kids down that way if you visit, folks, as Angelina will whip them out from under you in no time at all!" (allegedly).

I was stuck at the lights and just counted out in disbelief. I'm no economist, hence the user name, but I'm surprised the area can support another estate agent when there doesn't seem to be many properties for sale.

I'm not against estate agents, per se, that would be nonsense but just as a good French diet - everything in moderation............. ;)

As for Angelina, sorry too scary for me. I'd be struggling to resist the urge to lick her on the lips and stick her to the nearest pane of glass - sorry girls
