Hi there,

Can amyone tell me the names of my local private primary schools, I am a new mum and am wondering about signing LO up for one or two as I understand the lists are loooooong.

Also, we are not very religious people, will this mean that our LO cannot apply for faith schools?

We live on St John's Hill, SW11

Private Faith schools are different from State. Most state Faith schools which are oversubscribed require church attendance on Sunday's and other sacraments to have been received. You can get this information from the school's website or the council.

Thomas's Fulham is an easy school run from St John's Hill - its just over Wandworth Bridge and no competeing school run traffic from south of the river

I posted this a while ago but its still broadly true:

This is *roughly* true...

Broomwood Hall/Northcote Lodge if your child secretly wants to wear spats and a waistcoat, calls you mater and pater and yearns for Edwardian England.

Thomas' if they openly want to conquer the work, believe in winning at all costs and *know* they are going to be prime minister one day. Some of the children are a little "Damienish". An uberconfident five year old can be a bit scary.

Finton House and Hornsby House are a balance of the top two but if you have a boy be aware that most chaps leave Finton at 7.

Bertrum House is lovely and is especially suitable for younger children.

Parkgate: beautiful little school but almost no sport for the boys so a few of their kids grow up thinking their football wizards and then fail to make the "Z" team at a bigger school

Mistletoe's summary made me laugh! Glad she said *roughly*! Having a chuckle that my little boy might come across as a bit Damienish....
He goes to Thomas's... Have to say we love it there and it's not nearly as pushy as its reputation suggests...and, there are some amazing, down to earth mums there too, which has made it a happy experience for me as well! Thomas's have been simply brilliant with my little boy - he has some learning issues and isn't uber confident at all...I don't think I birthed a future world leader, that's for sure

My suggestion is that you take time to visit all the private sector primary schools. I think that if you meet the teachers and the head and look at and meet some of the kids that you will get a good feel as to whether your kid will be happy there.

Thank you Mistletoe, for helping to confirm my decision to send my child to one of the perfectly good state primary schools in the area with a broad range of different types of kids and parents, rather than one of these schools where the 'little darlings' sound horrific!

Ooh, I must say I found Misletoe's comments funny but didn't take them very seriously! If I only had to worry about whether my child wanted to dress up in old-fashioned clothing or was scarily-confident I'd be very happy. My son is in one of the state school nurseries and I'm currently trying to stamp out some of the behaviour he's picking up there - like spitting and using words I would rather he didn't in everyday conversation!

If I am honest my own children have attended both of these schools so I am taking the mickey out of my own children's schools.

But if Broomwood was a TV programme it would be Downton Abbey and Thomas' would be The Apprentice!

I too loved the summary of the local Private Primary schools.
On the subject of good faith schools even if you are not religious. Apply at year 1. Wandsworth has a high transient population and people move away. We have friends who are catholic with a small C (not church goers) and they got into St Anslums at yr1. It can be done.
Be aware, WBC have changed the rules regarding state school waiting lists. They now stop after a year, so you will have to reapply if you want your kids to get in to BP, H or BV etc.

Thanks so much for the descriptions, very useful & most amusing as we are looking for a place for our baby son & keen to get his name down. We're also looking at Wandsworth Prep which is opening in Sept 2012 on the site of the Old library on Allfarthing Lane, just off Wandsworth Common Westside. It's co - ed, there are a series of open mornings coming up. It's 4-11 & non selective.
