Where to buy curtain fabric?

Postby gail0810 » Mon Feb 20, 2012 10:29 pm

We moved house fairly recently and are getting curtains made up for our sitting room, bedroom and toddler's bedroom by a friend who has just started up her own curtain and blind making business. Can anyone recommend where we can buy decent fabrics at reasonable prices? We've looked in John Lewis and seen a few fabrics we liked, but wondered if there was anywhere we could try too that might be a bit cheaper?

Thank you

Try - www.Discount-Fabric.co.uk (T: 0845 017 9690). They sell fabric at discounted prices including many of the main names (eg Romo, Harlequin, Designers Guild ). I have used them for current range fabrics and I think I saved around 20% although don't recall exactly. Phone them up with the fabric code number and they will give you a quote.

Hello, two places for you... The Pak cloth house and the Wimbledon sewing machine centre, both found between Balham and Tootin Bec stations. I have used them both.

If you know the name of the fabric in John Lewis you want, try typing it into ebay. I did this for curtain fabric and found somewhere which sells the exact same fabric for £8.50 per metre as opposed to JL £16.....

Hi

Have you tried:

http://www.curtainfactoryoutlet.co.uk/

I use them for my photography backdrops. Their stock is always massive. Huge variety and they have some great deals too.

You could try the Suzy Watson shop on Northcote Road. Definitely rather pricey but great materials for toddler curtains.

Always bought fabrics on ebay... all the best brands at a fraction of the price - jane churchill (for kids), colefax, brunschwig, gp & j baker, etc. Also, the Chelsea Textiles sale is still on.

The Fabric Home on Purley way crescent in Croydon is amazing. I've used it a lot since they opened a few months ago. All their fabric is £5 per metre and they have fabric from places like Laura Ashley. I highly recommend it! Hope this helps.

Hi all,

I love Ian Mankin fabrics, they have a lovely range of co-ordinating fabrics. All simple designs - stripes, checks etc in a sort of country/ scandi style. I've used them to create really lovely rooms using mix of 2-3 fabrics for headboards, curtians, cushions etc

..Also would love yo know the name of your friend who has started the curtain making business! Please share!!

I love http://www.curtainfabricsonline.com I bought curtain fabric for only £2.99 per mtr and it looks great. They also sell curtains but have loads of fabric. I'd try them
