Cloth Nappies Post Reply

Hi there
Has anyone got any recommendation/suggestion/advice about which cloth nappies to go for. I have done a few searches and tots bots keep coming up. Would love to hear from anyone who uses them or can suggest another brand. Also how many do you think are required for a new born.

used bambino mio birth to potty for youngest son.
i used a different brand for eldest son 13 years ago, which was a home delivery and weekly pick up and wash which they don't seem to do anymore.
hence i ended up using bambino and i found it dead easy to use and wash
you can use it with any waterproof wrap you feel comfortable with
i have to admit tho that i didn't go all the way to potty like i did first time around as i got lazy...
if you're interested - i still have the entire bambino set - the end half almost new, the first half used but in good condition which i would be happy to sell!

I use Pop-ins and think that they are great. They are supposed to be one size although I didn't use them from birth so I don't know if they would be a bit bulky for a newborn. You can buy a test pack of a single nappy from Waitrose and then if you like them a multi-pack online. Hope this helps

I also use the Close Parent Pop Ins, and think they are absolutely fanstatic, no need for outer wraps as they are an all-in-one so much less faffing, and you only need buy one nappy as they fit from birth to potty training. I have used mine since my daugther was six weeks old and she is now 14 months and they are still going strong. I didn't find them too bulky when she was smaller, although as with any baby who wears cloth nappies, occasionally you will find the fit with some clothes slightly tighter. Hopefully when my daughter is potty trained, they'll be put aside for any future children.

I bought my multi pack of 20 nappies (after initially buying a single one from Waitrose) from Bebeco, which is a great website. You also get the boosters for night time when you buy the multi packs, as well as wet nappy bags, which you won't get if you buy them individually, and of course it works out cheaper.

Cannot recommend them highly enough - just don't understand why more families don't use them as they are so easy!

Hi there!

Great to hear of other real nappy users!

I use a combination of Bumgenius nappies and Bambinex nappies with Motherease wraps. The bumgenius nappies have a watreproof outer with pop-in microfibre insert and are really easy to use as they just do up with velcro, so they're great for when you are out and about and for putting on wriggly babies and toddlers. They can also be used easily by grandparents/child-carers etc! They are super fast drying and pretty slimline. However, they are slightly less absorbant and more prone to leaks, especially with newborns. I find that they become more useful as your baby gets older. The bambinex nappies (previously called Bambineo or Geobel nappies) are made from bamboo so very eco-friendly and super absorbant and they very very rarely leak. However they do take a long time to dry if you are just line-drying so I find it useful to have the bumgenius as well. Both nappy types are birth-to-potty (although you can get a smaller size of Bambinex nappies too if you want a less bulky nappy on a small baby) so they are pretty economical. I am using them for the second time round now and they are still going strong.

I don't know of any particular shops in Wandsworth that stock lots of real nappies (Waitrose and Boots stock a couple) but if you want to try out different nappies, the babykind website (http://www.babykind.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) is great as the first of every nappy or wrap type that you buy is an 'automatic trial' so you can try it and if you don't like it, you can return it for 70% of its value.
