Recommendation for building contractor etc? Post Reply

Hi there,

After a survey elicited various issues with the house we're buying (even though it looks in good nick!), I need to get quotes for work from a building contractor, damp-proofing specialist, roofing contractor, drainage specialist and heating engineer. Aargh!

Can anyone recommend a suitable company or person/people?

Talk to Philip Nicholson on 07836336467. He's looking after clients at the moment in Clapham and they are both really happy, advisies on what and what not to do as well as keep the price down.

For a house with so many problems, it will be tricky for you to get a handle on all the costs and work that needs doing - especially since you don't live in it yet! I would consider a different purchase, just from a risk perspective, unless the price is very good or you are very confident that you understand the severity of all the problems and have a good idea of the cost + time required.

Otherwise, I can recommend the building company that did a whole house renovation for me - Riga Interiors. Their quote was good compared to other building contractors. Only downside is that the staff have limited English, and they are not very good at offering advice (so you yourself need to be clued up on what you want). Otherwise, the job done is to a high standard.

hi there - we just had an amazing builder, Brian Meakin, for our renovation in Wimbledon - we had to do everything from replacing a roof, supporting another one and just about everything inside from electrics to replastering entire house. Brian was immensely cost conscious (unless he just felt a bit sorry for us) and all the contractors he brought in were top notch. Can't recommend him highly enough. Mobile - 07974 912325. (the only thing we haven't done yet are the drains - but our structural engineer recommended a company called Drain Scan who came and did an estimate and the CCTV investigation etc - they were very good.)

We used an amazing contractor called BeConstructive Ltd-They were brilliant! I would highly recommend them. We used them to practically rebuild our house Between the Commons- the 15 month long project could have been a total nightmare, ran extremely smoothly. They are totally professional , incredibly reliable ( amazing time keepers!) and their quality of work excellent. We would certainly use them again without any doubt! Speak to Chris on 07837 099127.
