water activities in our area?

Postby newtosw18 » Thu Jul 26, 2012 2:40 pm

Hi, can any one help with places to take little ones in this lovely weather where they can wet themselves. Not looking for swimming pools more in the line of paddling pools where there's no need for me to get totally wet.

Thanks x

I like Wimbledon Park playground as it has a lovely paddling pool with fun sprays and my kids absolutely love it. The water is only turned on for a few months but believe it is on now plus there is a cafe for drinks and ice cream and lovely gardens and lake too.
There is also Tooting Lido but for me it is Wimbledon Park all the way (entrance off Revelstoke Road)
Hope it helps

There's a lovely big paddling pool on Clapham common, by Holy Trinity Church.

Tooting lido and Wimbledon Park paddling pool are both fab, but unfortunately both were out of order yesterday due to faulty pumps. Apparently the childrens poo at the lido will definitely be closed until tomorrow (might be worth checking), not sure about Wimbledon park, although apparently yesterday afternoon they station a man with a hose pipe there!

The paddling pool on clapham common was working this morning (it opens from 10am).

Have you checked out Bishops Park? They have recreated a Victorian beach along the riverside. It has great fountains to play in and playgrounds for different age groups. Another place to try is the paddling pool next to Streatham Rookery. Have a splashing time!

Recommend brockwell park. Great paddling pool and sand area, next to walled garden, linked up now to 3 duck ponds and the new playground has opened too

Must agree with other respondees that Brockwell Park is the place to go and the new playground facilities make Clapham Common's play areas look distinctly second rate.

Our two year old does enjoy the paddling pool on Clapham Common however (opposite Holy Trinity Church?) although it gets a bit boisterous at times and there are usually some "interesting" things in the water and be warned, it is extremely slippy as I have found to my cost.

Yep get to Brockwell Park...the best park in south London and so much more interesting to explore than Clapham/Wandsworth Commons.

Happy splashing :D

Brockwell Park is great.
There is a good range of play areas including a paddling pool at Figgs Marsh, but expect to be in a minority. My kids didn't mind at all and had a blast...

Expect to be in a minority of what exactly?? Really??

I've seen pictures of the new water park at Figges Marsh and it looks really great!

Wow rooting4tooting! I'm really trying not to be incredibly offended by your last post.... I very much hope that I have misunderstood your references to 'in a minority' and your kids not minding!

Could everyone calm down a little and not be so quick to take offence?

I understood rooting4tooting as saying that Brockwell Park might not be heavy with the BTC demographic and to be aware of that if it matters to you. I didn't understand rooting4tooting as saying that it matters to her - she said her kids had a blast. I didn't understand the comment as being specifically racial or ethnic.
