Which is best maclaren to get?

Postby AliB144 » Tue Mar 12, 2013 9:13 pm

Hi everyone

We are travelling abroad for the first time with our 8 month old and need to buy a maclaren type collapsable buggy for the journey.

Can anyone recommend the best type to get? I was going to look at the maclaren but there are quite a few in their range.

Many thanks in advance

I agree, the XT is definitely the best. I have had the same one for nearly 6 years and it's still going strong!

If it's only for travel I would suggest Quest. It's the smallest and the lightest but still comfortable. We bought one to use at the airports, I also use it for the nursery runs. I never regretted choosing Quest over XT or any other Maclaren model :)

I'm quite happy with XT, my toddler prefers it over his bugaboo chameleon.

We also have the XT and its been good. But would suggest its also worth looking at the BabyJogger Citi Mini. The folding mechanism is really simple and makes it much easier to carry than the Maclarens in my opinion. Also fold down really well so they are easy to stow away at home or fit in a car boot etc for travelling (the citi mini double fits in the boot of our golf). And its a personal thing but I find it is better for pushing around than our maclaren - good manoeuvrability, sturdy wheels etc.

I am confused?!?! Sorry to re-start this thread but we have been offered (as a gift) a Maclaren from Birth - having looked at the XT, Quest and XLR - I can see no difference in the specs of each - other than choice of colour and price - they all list the same weight and the same specs, I like the XT in Scarlet, other than that have no idea what the difference is between them all - but if the main consensus is for XT - I will let my very generous friend know (who is buying it for us!) tks guys

Pod, I don't think Quest is suitable from birth :) More from 6 months I think :)

I checked - Mothercare list 16 mclarens all suitable from birth (quest, XT and XLR) and I simply cannot tell the difference between any of them - it's driving me insane :?

AliB,

do you have a boy or girl?
I ask because I purchased a Maclaran Quest for exactly the same purpose you are and after using it happily for one holiday abroad haven't used it since as we then holidayed in the UK. It is as good as new and I would be very happy to sell it to you for far less than you'd pay for a new one ;) PM me if you're interested and I can send you photos.

I've got a quest and just bought a techno xt and it is undoubtedly better.

The quest does not recline fully like the XT so much better for naps. I'm surprised if it says suitable from birth, I definitely wouldn't use it in baby's firtst 3 months at least. The XT has got a great hood that comes down really far to give good sun protection for your baby. The quest doesn't.

The XT's wheels are slightly bigger and more robust.

The quest is fine....but the XT is definitely better. I just bought a second hand one on ebay for the price I paid for my new quest as I really wanted one.

hope that's helpful...

I also have a Quest which we got for holiday travel and nursery run.
Love it.
I understand that the XT is the only model that lies flat. I think it might be slightly bigger/heavier than the Quest (wheels look bigger) and is more expensive.
If you want a second or holiday/travel for 6 month +baby maclaren would suggest the Quest.
If it is your only buggy and your need from birth XT is probably way to go.
