laser hair removal treatment - is it worth the money?

Postby jo jo » Tue Apr 02, 2013 11:19 am

laser hair removal treatment - is it worth the money? I've been trying to decide whether to spend the money or not also heard that it is best to wait until after you've had all children. Thoughts?

I had it done after my first child but had to take a break when I got pregnant with my second. I resumed after no 2 was born. It is great and so easy. I went to Mary Parkes who has a room in Fitness First on St John's Hill, next to Clapham Junction station. You can get a deal there where you pay £150 for 1 k worth of treatments.

Worth doing, you go once a month!

Worth it if you hav finished having children. Hormonal changes can change hair and so it might not last!

I only have one session left of a very expensive course and am sad to say it hasn't really worked for me at all. I think maybe it is the type of laser as mine is a 'pain free' Soprano but I have since read that the pain is what causes the hair to be destroyed.
Would be interested to know what laser was used on those that had success and also hair and skin type. All this makes a difference.

I had it done a few years ago on a group on deal. Very pleased with the results, did bikini and underarms. It took 5 mins a session. I did 6 sessions but only needed 4 really. Worked out cheaper than waxing by a long way. I plan to do my legs soon. Apparently best to do in winter as area shouldn't be sun exposed, however I did go on holiday when doing bikini line and I just out factor 50 on and a towel over me. IPL is not the same I have been told so don't go for that. I think certain skin and hair types respond better than others. I'p did have amazing results but I know someone whose skin type just didn't work that well with it.

Oh forgot to say. I am not sure what laser it was but the clinic did say theirs was the best and there were lot of inferior ones. I went to skin oasis near baker st.http://www.skin-oasis.co.uk/ it was a pain to trek up there but I thought worth it as worked and was very cheap on a groupon deal. Think I paid about £300 for two areas. I had it done between children and it did stay away.

I was told that it works better on darker hair and you mustn't do it if you have a tan as the melatonin rises to the skin surface when you have a tan and that prevents it from working. Some areas are more difficult to shift that others and you go patchy for a while til the other areas catch up!

They will all over a test on your skin to see if you have an allergic reaction.

Hello!

I think it's really worth doing and have had great results! I've been going to www.completelasercare.co.uk which is run by a couple of ex-nurses who have been doing it for years. (I started back when it was only just getting going and so wasn't sure who I trusted being let loose with a laser on my skin!)

Hi, I had my full legs done about 3 years ago. Best thing I've ever done and worth every penny! :) I used to get ingrown hairs (which left a few scars) as well but the laser got rid of it all. No emergency shaving when the sun suddenly shows up! Now having my arms done then maybe bikini...

It works best on dark hair, I'm quite olive skinned with dark hair so found I only needed 4-5 sessions so maybe consider this before buying a block of treatments. You can't have a tan (fake or real) when doing it so best do before the summer.

If you need a recommendation, I go to Destination Skin (used to be called Renew Medica) on the new Kings Road. I think they are brilliant. I went to 3 different well known clinics for consultations and found them by far the best. They do excellent promotions every now and again too with discounts on laser, IPL etc.

Good luck!

Hi JoJo

I posted this reply a while back as someone else was looking at having laser hair removal:

I know it's not right around the corner, but I use Pro Skin (www.proskinclinics.com) and they have clinics at Marble Arch and High Street Kensington. They have a Cynosure lasers which are evidently one the best lasers. The prices are really good – any laser area is only £49/ session. I'm really pleased with my results and the customer service from the clinic team has been amazing. At first I was a bit worried that it was 'too good to be true' but I honestly think you could easily pay twice as much for same quality at other clinics. Highly recommend them.

If you do decided to go for Laser Hair removal make sure you check which laser they use. I did my research and Cynosure lasers are supposed to be one of the best, since they have won lots of awards etc and they are a big US company. So my advice would be whoever you go with, check which laser they offer as this is key to how effective the hair removal will be. I was told by my therapist that laser hair removal for blondes is much tricker than for darker hair. I was ok though as I have light brown hair so it worked brilliantly for me. Good luck.
