John Archer Way area primary schools

Postby Lovingsleep » Sat May 04, 2013 12:19 pm

Hello,

Could anyone living in the John Archer Way area tell me which primary school their children managed to get into? Or nursery school even?

We are surrounded by lots of outstanding or very good schools, but from the council website it seems that we probably don't live close enough to any of them to be offered a place.

Thank you!

I don't live there but a couple of thoughts:

It might be a bit of a treck, but St Faiths in the Tonsleys had excellent results last year. The school is really lovely, just one form entry so really sweet for the little ones. Lovely outside space and lovely large classrooms with lots of natural light.

Traditionally it's not been a particularly sought after school and as such the catchment is quite far, so you might be able to get in there. Are you too far for Swaffield? This is also a really good school.

There are a few children (including mine) who started reception at Swaffield last September from that area, BUT they didn't get the places until after the start of the school year, around mid-September. The closest school is probably High View, which we were offered and spent less than a week at before moving to Swaffield. I believe others were offered St Faiths. This year, friends who live on West Hill have already received offers for Swaffield, which is much further than John Archer Way, so perhaps the knock-on effect of other schools in the area opening/taking on extra has resulted in an increase in catchment? It's definitely worth having a look at Swaffield. We love it, and Mrs Lilley is so incredibly lovely - it's rare not to see her in the playground in the morning, and the children adore her :) A very happy place!

Brilliant, that's really helpful. Yes Swaffield seems to receive some great reviews which is good news as it's one of our closest. Glad your kids are enjoying it there. Thank you!

You should also definitely take a look at St Faiths. It's not that far away and I have a friend who lives in your area who sent her kids there. It got some of the best results in the area last year, the one class entry makes it feel like a village school, it has great facilities and an inspiring teaching staff.

See the 'Views on St Faiths' conversation on this site, as there is growing momentum around the school.

Good luck!

Do look at High View as well. It is doing well - results comparable to Belleville - and there are more and more positive reviews of it. It is also a feeder for Bolingbroke which will be your nearest state secondary which could be a factor if you are considering long-term state education in this area.
