Driving Instructor - patient and very efficient

Postby Amy » Sun May 02, 2010 9:25 pm

Hi there,

Can anyone recommend a driving instructor (automatic only) for weekend lessons? I can't afford the big expensive companies like the AA or BSM. I have already had several driving lessons with a small company but feel I need a more patient instructor - apparently I'm not learning fast enough. I'm always very nervous everytime I drive and nearly gave up but in my opinion it is necessary to know how to drive when you have a little child/children. Help please!

After finding out that I was moving to Africa at the end of July I finally accepted I had to pass my driving test. I am now 32, but have had blocks of lessons at 17 and in my 20s. I was petrified of driving, have had awful experiences with many instructors and actually got both my children up the escalators at Angel tube station in a Phil and Teds rather than accept that I had to learn to drive. However I started with Becky at 1st Class Drving (020 84084600) a few weeks ago and after 10 lessons now have the confidence to apply for my test. She is so patient and encouraging but not too nicey nicey which would mean that I would probably refuse to do anything and just cry a lot instead! She was recommended to me by a mum at my daughter's school who had apparently got out of the car at a roundabout during a lesson 20 years ago and not driven since. She passed with flying colours a couple of months ago. Becky told me she has had a pupil come to her after having previously had 150 lessons, so my mere 43 felt like nothing. She even let me have my first few lessons at 7am on a Saturday so I wouldn't have to meet any other traffic. She told me that if I'm not able to do something it is because she is not doing her job properly and explaining it in a way that I can understand, not that I am useless. I'm not sure that is entirely true, but it certainly makes me feel a bit more positive about the whole process. Best of luck! `

Thank you very much for the info. I have contacted 1st Class Driving today but unfortunately they don't have an instructor for automatic car around my area, SW11. However it is good to know that I'm not the only person having difficulty learning to drive - for a while I'm being to doubt myself.
