Hotel/restaurant suggestions for husband's birthday? Post Reply

I'm planning a surprise night away for my husband's birthday - our first time away from our 18-month-old - but feel out of the loop when it comes to cool new restaurants and boutique hotels. Can anyone suggest a good restaurant and/or smart/fashionable hotel in London that might work? I am aware that this is likely to be ruinously expensive, but we haven't been out properly for about two years so perhaps I can justify it!

What kind of food does your husband like?

If he's a steak man then I'd really recommend 34 near Grosvenor Square

I had a superb dinner at the Bingham in Richmond, which overlooks the Thames- heavenly if the sun is shining. It is a boutique hotel and I wished we were staying the night too, alas we had to get back to babysitter:-(

The zetter hotel , clerkenwell. Great bars nearby. or you can stay and eat at shoreditch house - good for roof terrace and some entertaining people watching.

I can second hawksmoor. Probably the best steak in London. Expensive though, be prepared to spend £40+ per person.

Another interesting steak place is l'entrecote de relaise. A French style steak place. They only do one dish - steak, chips, salad. But really tasty. £20 I think per person for the steak.

The selsdon.. Its in croydon but surronded by countryside and a golf course!! Its lovely!!!!
