recommendations for sunshine holiday over christmas/new year

Hello,
We are looking to head away over christmas/new year. We are potentially looking for Tenerife but are open to anywhere hot enough to swim etc. It's a minefield out there as to which resort to choose, I'd appreciate any recommendations you may have. Many thanks in advance.

I can 2nd Oman - beautiful & much nicer than Dubai
