To 4X4 drivers in Wandsworth

Postby Wheresmyschool? » Fri Sep 27, 2013 8:53 pm

If you ARE going to own a massive 4x4 in Wandsworth where the roads are narrow and Victorian because it gives you a sense of status even though they're more dangerous for pedestrians in an accident then please make sure you can actually drive the **** thing.

Today there was a stupid stupid person in a large black Range Rover who turned into a road which I was already driving down.

I had right of way.

She didn't want to reverse so I sat there for five minutes waiting for her to move.

Eventually she reversed slowly back down the road and had the temerity to shout at ME for being awkward.

Honestly, if you drive a black Range Rover in Wandsworth and you're a thin blonde female then you ARE a living breathing stereotype and should get a life. Or a pizza.

I think the funniest thing I ever saw was 2 4x4 drivers hurling abuse at each other over right of way just off Webbs Road.
Even funnier when one finally reversed and reversed straight back into another 4x4 behind them.
Honestly! Why on earth drive the bloody things round here?

The exact same thing happened to me today on Hendrick Ave. Blonde woman in a 4x4. Made me reverse though I had right of way. Never mind. I console myself by thinking that she must be really unhappy to behave like such a sociopathic moron.

Sorry 4x4 owners..... But I could not agree more!!!! Ridiculous cars to drive around the narrow streets of South west London....most of them have never even been anywhere outside the M25. Cannot understand why someone living in London would have the need for one of these cars. One particular mum at our school lives 5 minutes walk from the school and insists in driving right to the front door of the school in her Range Rover sport (with the dark windows....my real pet hatred!). With kids all around her which she can't even see because she is so high up. Cannot stand these cars and what they stand for.

.... Just put your hazard lights on, get out of your car, lock it and walk in the opposite direction. Gets them every time! they will be the one reversing. (Best do it when you haven't got the kids in the back)

And you should ask the "blond 4x4 driver" if she knows where the switch for the 4 wheels drive is"!!!!!

Seriously i strongly agree with everything said. But i dislike the "blond" generalisation. Just insulting IMO. (I drive a hybrid mercedes not a 4x4 snd i m a brunette).

Generally I would agree with you. But two days ago, my nanny was trying to strap the kids in the car and one of my neighbours saw fit to get out of their own car and come up and abuse her, shouting about the size of the car she was using and how she shouldn't drive such a big car.

Irony was this person was herself driving a pretty big car.

I really hope this neighbour comes to complain to me in person as I have a few points about manners and neighbourly tolerance I am prepared to make!

Yes, you're right, the blonde comment was a poor shot and I apologise.

However, today, as I pedal around NappyValley I am going to yell "stereotype" at anyone who is of ANY hair colour who is driving a black Range Rover.

I also can't bare these ridiculous 4x4 driven around our narrow streets.completely useless!!!

It would be interesting to hear the point of view of one of the 4x4 drivers as to why they have these cars in London? (And this is not a sarcastic question....I really would be interested!)

I grew up in the middle of the countryside in a very rural county, where Landrovers, Range Rovers etc were used for driving through fields, along muddy tracks etc - ie what they were designed for - and the ones that came to collect my friends from school were always covered in mud, dog hair etc! As a result I do find it odd to see pristine ones driving around in London. However, having said that, I would probably fall under your "blonde driving a 4x4" remit as we do have a large car - the reasons are 1) if you have 3 children aged 4 and under there are not that many cars where you can fit 3 suitable car seats in a row in the back and 2) it scores very highly on safety performance which is reassuring when you do lots of long motorway journeys. For what it's worth I don't use it for the school run or much at all during the week as we are lucky enough to be able to walk most places we need to go BUT if I did then that would be my choice! It is a free country, people work hard for their cash and if they choose to buy an expensive shiny car as a status symbol or anything else for that matter then it is up to them!! Just to play devils advocate, if you find yourself in a stand off where one of you has to reverse down a narrow street, I don't think it really matters what car you are driving - round here the streets are so narrow with parked cars either side etc that even if you were both in a Toyota Prius, Smart car or whatever else you deem acceptable, it's not as if you would be able to squeeze past each other - you would still have to reverse!!!! If the papers were full of "child hit by Range Rover near school gates" stories then I would be inclined to agree people should be discouraged from driving them, but I'm not sure if that is the case. I'm afraid I'm quite "live and let live" about this kind if thing. People who drive inconsiderately, uninsured or deliberately ignore your right of way are another matter of course...

There is a very good reason for having a 4x4 or a people carrier. If you have more than three children (as we do) you need three rows of seats. The next time you scowl at a 4x4 it may well be the case that it is being used to capacity. Our 4x4 also has the added advantage that my blonde wife looks fabulous in it of course but that is just a bonus. Just to confirm she does eat pizza.

There are plenty of non 4x4 cars that can fit 4 children ? Really not a reason....I prefer the explanation if the previous poster who just said she has one because she works hard and she wants one!

As for your blond wife looking good in it....that has just completely proven the point am afraid !!! :?
