fireworks and toddlers?

Postby claphamama » Tue Oct 29, 2013 2:33 pm

Hi,

I would love to take my 2 years old to one of the fireworks display this year but not sure if 1. she is a bit too young 2. which ones - if any - are more 'toddler friendly'. Any ideas/suggestions?

Thank you!

Merton council are doing two lots of fireworks at Morden Hall Park - 5.30 for the children's display followed by the 7.30/ 8pm adults one.

Its pay to enter and if I remember correctly tickets are available on the door.

I'm glad someone posted about this because I've been wondering if my 2.5 year old will enjoy the fireworks. What's been the experience of others - is this too young or something toddlers enjoy?

I've taken my kids to see the fireworks since they were very little. As a baby it was fine, but as toddlers they found the bangs too loud and would cry. If you do want to take your toddler to a display its worth thinking about taking along some 'ear defenders' (like the ones workmen use). My husband picked up a couple from work and they are brilliant. I'm sure you can google where to get hold of some.

Hi claphamama,

Just a little word of warning - our (then) two year old was absolutely terrified of the fireworks shows last summer when we were in Spain in midsummer week. Unfortunately it was a 6 night fireworks festival, so we had to batten down the hatches each night in our apartment at 10pm (when they started) and distract him with books etc (yes he was still awake at that time as it was so hot, but that's another (tiring) story!)
If your little one is fine with loud noises then he/she might be okay with it all, or some ear defenders like others have mentioned might make enjoyment more likely!
And I've heard that the Battersea Park ones are well organised (but tickets sell out fast).
Good luck.
