Northcote lights and Christmas pop-up market

Postby jonathan @ hamptons » Fri Nov 08, 2013 9:49 am

SAVE THE DATE...!!!

On the evening of 28th November we will be having the annual Christmas lights switch-on on Northcote Road. We will have Belleville & Honeywell choirs, mulled wine, funfair rides, a mini performance by the BAC, fire engines and Santa will be returning to his grotto at Hamptons. All the shops have also pulled together to provide over a hundred lit Christmas trees to line the street.

On Saturday 30th November we have arranged to suspend most of the parking bays along Northcote Road and around 40 of the summer fete pop-up stalls will return for a shopping day.

More details to follow soon.

The two choirs will start at either end of Northcote Road at about 4.30 and will converge outside La Cuisinere for about 5pm (that's where the pavement is at its widest). The lights should be switched on at around 5pm and immediately following that the Battersea Arts Centre are going to do a mini performance.

The shops are aiming to stay open until about 8pm and Santa's grotto will be at Hamptons again and will be there from 4 until 7.

There will be a formal announcement next week.

Cheers

Christmas lights switch on
Thursday 28th November

In conjunction with Wandsworth Council’s Clapham Junction Partnership, The Northcote Road Business Network is delighted to announce that this year’s Christmas light switch on will take place on Thursday 28th November. Featuring activities such as carol singers, funfair rides, fire engines, street entertainers and a mini performance by the Battersea Arts Centre (featuring a short performance by performers from their magical Christmas show for families, The Good Neighbour), the evening promises to be a memorable event.

From 4.30 Belleville and Honeywell School choirs will be starting from Battersea Rise and Chatham Road respectively and converging at the same point as BAC, singing various carols along the route. Once there, the lights will be officially switched on by local MP and Parliamentary Under Secretary of State Jane Ellison and ITV weather presenter Lucy Verasamy at around 5pm.

There will be two funfair rides, one near Chatham Hall and the other in Abyssinia Close, to add to the festive feel. The London Fire Brigade have also agreed to bring along one of their fire engines for children old and young to play with!! Local businesses will be staying open late and giving various special offers, mulled wine, hot chocolate and discounts on the night. Santa will once again return to his grotto at Hamptons International estate agents and real live reindeers will also be visiting Rampton Baseley.

The lights themselves will be complemented this year by over 100 lit Christmas trees arranged along the length of Northcote Road. Sponsored by local businesses and supplied by the Business Network, these 6’ trees will also be lit on the night and will remain twinkling until Christmas.

Pop-up Christmas shopping day
Saturday 30th November

Following the highly successful summer fete, we are pleased to announce a new pop up Christmas shopping event on Saturday 30th November. Parking bays along the length of Northcote Road will be suspended and we have booked in over 40 visiting traders from the summer pop up market to take part in a festive shopping day. There will be an array of stalls from photographers to cake stalls and handmade furnishings to cosmetics.

Again, all the regular shops along Northcote Road will be giving special offers on the day and also help to provide some further festive cheer with such offerings as mulled wine, hot chocolate, cooking demos, street entertainment and other activities.

Both events are going to be great fun. We look forward to seeing you there!

Sponsors
These events would not be possible without the volunteers of the Northcote Business Network and our major sponsors. Douglas & Gordon, Hamptons International, John Thorogood and Turquoise Holidays who have all helped enormously, and media partner www.nappyvalleynet.com who have, as ever, been incredibly supportive. Special thanks should also be given to local basement specialist Estbury Basements who have kindly arranged to plant the Christmas trees into concrete tubs and deliver them to Northcote Road.
