Fresh wave of Council Cuts

Postby Wheresmyschool? » Thu Dec 05, 2013 1:58 pm

Shouldn't we be trying to get more people in work that out?

Councillors rubber stamped plans to axe 28 members of staff during a full council meeting last night.

Posts are being removed from the Children's Services Department and the leisure and culture division in the Environment and Community Services Department.

Wandsworth has one of the lowest council tax rates on the UK.

Staff salaries are paid in part by council taxes.

Therefore would you like to support an increase in council taxes to help fund enlarging the number of council employees?

Yeah that's exactly what I'd like.

Can I also cook Christmas lunch for them all?

You really can't expect to have the lowest Council tax in the country, in one of the most expensive parts of the country, and great Council services.

The Councillors genuinely believe that we, the voters, value low Council tax more highly than great public services. Maybe they are right. I find it quite surprising, however - so many people on this site want the best, rather than the cheapest, in most areas of life (education, houses, kitchens, holidays, cars!) - why would they want bargain basement public services?

It's not rocket science - when central government is cutting funding to local authorities we can either pay more for our services or put up with the libraries being closed half the week, the roads being full of pot holes and losing the one o'clock clubs and lollipop ladies. If we are prepared to pay, we should let our Councillors know that we value these services more than frozen Council tax.

I never said I want the best service

I feel sorry for those that are losing their jobs at this time of year - especially when the CEO of Wandsworth is probably giving himself an Xmas bonus ...

Clapset: what's the evidence to back up your claim of huge bonuses for head of Wandsworth Council, as you're verging close to making a slanderous claim.

I get that you're upset about the job cuts.

Boonkoh - reading ability is not essential for use of this site but anyway let's move on. And for the record I don't care - I just want to see the back of that CEO plonker ... is that verging on slander? Has he got a reputation to damage? Feel free to send him my way if he wants to take me on ... I'm here all week!

Looks like someone has a personal grudge against the "Wandsworth CEO"! I'm fascinated, tell me more about your strong emotions towards him or her.

If you don't even know if it's a man or woman ... you should read more widely than nvn ...

Why would I hold a grudge against the CEO (sex undisclosed)? Like I've got nothing better to do, which by the way I haven't.

Would you like me to lie back on your couch? Do you want to know about my childhood? Am I a suitable case for treatment?

So that's 200k too much - that the parking attendant forward slash litter picker is paid. Not sure what's worse the fool that is called CEO of wandsworth council or lady gaga pretty much nut naked in the muppets Christmas special ... The CEO clearly at least you can laugh at kermit ...plus they're both frogs ... No sorry muppets - I get the 2 confused!

The more services are put online / shared with other councils, the less staff are needed.

Wandsworth is a low tax borough, the public sector has to be paid for by tax so the smaller number of employees the better.

Well done Wandsworth for not resting on your laurels
