Laptop Clean up

Postby Amyfordo » Mon Feb 17, 2014 2:42 pm

Does anyone know of where I can get my laptop (DEL) cleaned up as it seems to be riddled with bugs and pop ups and is driving me crazy? Thank you so much in advance for any help or advice.

07985160111 M ark
He is a neighbour of mine (Balham). He really knows his stuff and as he is independant he won't be as expensive as High Street shops.
he is also good at retreaving lost files ( he got back some old photos that I had forgotten about)
Hope this helps

Scooter computer are fab. They come to your house and fix your computer when you are ready to throw it out of the window. It isn't cheap - £95 ph but they do a damn good job and are nice to boot!

Hi,

I have had this problems many times and there are a few things you can do yourself like:
- Delete back ups you dont need: go to the windows bottom left hand corner and type back up
- Empty your recycle bin
- Delete programs you dont need
- Defragment your hard drive: again type defragment
- stop programs starting automatically when you turn on your computer: type msconfig and click on the program. Click on Startup. Un-tick those programs you do not need all the time (mayble bluetooth?) Some of these programs you will need to run your computer so it needs to be OBVIOUS you dont need them. In my experience sometimes spotify decides to start automatically
- make sure you have enough space in your hard drive. Videos, even short ones, can take a LOT of space.

HOWEVER, in my experience the improvements are only temporary.
The best way to improve your computer is to put all your important documents in a large pen drive or external drive and reformat your computer. To do this you will need the CD you got when you bought your computer. If you dont have it you can often request it from the maker online and they post it to you (a good thing to have anyway). I have a couple of friends that work on IT and both told me to do this. Windows leaves (apparently, I am an amateur) a footprint of all you do which after 3 years slows down most computers. You just need to clean it up and start again. The computer could last a long time.

But be careful. Remember to back up on your external drive:
- Your favourites: they are normally under c:/users/ 'your name'/ favourites
- Your documents
- your music, photos and videos
- your sticky notes: C:\Users\'Your name'\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Sticky Notes
Write down the programs you need to reinstall: itunes, spotify, skype, icloud, etc...
-Unfortunately if you dont have the CD you may lose your security software but there are lots of free ones that you can download.

I hope it helps!! xx
