City break recommendations with a toddler

Postby Amyfordo » Mon Apr 28, 2014 12:45 pm

Just wondering if anyone had been on any good city breaks with a toddler and had any recommendations. Ideally 3/4 days somewhere like Spain or Italy which isn't that far away flight wise? Thank you!

How about Barcelona? Fab to walk around and had a beach for downtime?

We went to Lisbon last year with our toddler and it was great- lots to see and do, plus people are so warm towards kids and went out of their way to engage with him wherever we were. He had lots of fun on the trams, furniculurs etc
I definitely recommend Lisbon ...

I have enjoyed Berlin, Budapest, and Paris with my son when he was 2 and 3. All have lots of good playgrounds, riverboats, open spaces (esp Budapest - hills outside the city were fab), child-friendly hotels.

n.b the best thing I did while travelling with him was to arrange a pushchair rental ahead of time - delivered to the hotel before we arrived and collected after we left.

Barcelona is a lovely city, BUT, and I am not the only one, it is pretty bad for casual theft; pickpocketing, distraction theft of bags, etc. On one short visit my partner and I were the victims of both of these, and other friends have also been targeted. If you are busy with a toddler you would be a prime target for these kinds of thieves.
Just FYI!
