Fantastic Japanese café on Lavender hill

Postby readbooks » Tue May 27, 2014 2:15 pm

I am sitting in Lagu café, enjoying delicious, unique Japanese food in a very zen atmosphere. Everything is very cute, from the little ceramic rabbit to hold chopsticks to the wooden mushroom children stools. The lady who runs the place is lovely, in a very discreet Japanese way.

It is PERFECT... and a little annoying because the place is empty, as it is quite often on a week day. So I am worried my little piece of paradise will have to close down one of these days. I love having the place to myself but I would rather share it than not have it at all!

So please come and try it. You cannot see the main sitting room from the street, which is part of the problem I guess.

And if you already know the place and love it as much as I do, please post here to show your support!

Thank you so much for your patience, if you made it to the bottom of my long monologue!

I completely agree, I love Lagu and I think I posted a few times about it on this website. Definitely a place to support. It would really be a shame if it closed.

It is two doors down from Il Molino, next to the estate agent in red with polka dots, a two minute walk East from the Battersea Art Centre (but across the road).

Enjoy!

I came to Lag ubased on the recommendation in this thread. I have spent lots if time in Japan and was excited to hear of a decent japanese restaurant in the area.

All my expectations were exceeded. It is an absolutely divine place. The food is incredible. You so rarely find good tuna sashimi in this country as good suppliers are rare but this place is outstanding with the same supplier as Nobu.

I am already planning my return visit next week. I can't rave about this place enough. Xxx

Also just to add - they have a side door if you have a buggy. I had lunch here with my baby last year and they were very helpful in getting it in. You have to ask them to open it though (which is a bit of a snag if there's only one of you!).

But agreed, it is a lovely restaurant and I really hope they do well!

Thanks for the tip. It's not that hard to find good Japanese food in London, it's hard to find reasonably priced, good Japanese food. Fingers crossed for its success.

I personnally thinks it is hard. So many are just average. I like to ear in a japanese restaurant where actually Japenese people go. There is one in Mayfair, i ll look up the name and post it. But looks like the one on Lavender Hill could be great!

Outside the valley I can recommend Dinings and sushi tetsu as well as kurobata. But these can be pricey for sure.

Otherwise ten ten tei in soho or there are a bunch in ealing.

I have just come back from dinner at Lagu Cafe on a Friday night. I went there based on the recommendations here. Just wanted to add that I agree with all the superb reviews. The owner is so lovely and it just breaks my heart that we may be her only customers on a Friday night. We will be back often. Please go and give it a try and keep this gem open.

I agree. The food is amazing and the owner is lovely. We enquired about delivery and they are looking into it. Great to have a healthy delivery option available!

Yes delivery or delivery via Hungry House service would be great. We don't get out much and would love good Japanese delivery!
