Coming off Tramadol after c section

Postby Moomie » Fri Oct 17, 2014 8:05 am

I had a planned c section on Tuesday. I'm allergic to all
NSAIDS eg ibruprofen, and also codeine. So I've been sent home
with paracetamol and the opiate Tramadol until Monday lunchtime.
I obviously don't want to take all the Tramadol up to then and stop. But I can't
work out when to start reducing as the advixe given is to "stay in too
of the pain". Has anyone else had this experience? I was considering whether to
drop one today, two tomorrow, three on Sunday?

I think phasing it out sounds like a good idea. Then you know how tolerable the pain is as you reduce the dosage. I did the same thing with Tramadol after my C section and it worked a treat. Congratulations on the new baby too :)

Thanks skippygirl. Midwife thought that sounded like good withdrawal plan too. I don't like how it's making me feel and I clearly can't type properly either - I meant 'stay on top of the pain' in my original post!

Just to report back on this in case anyone following it, I dropped the dose gradually as planned and haven't needed one since yesterday. Now just taking paracetamol four times a day and even having to remind myself to take it- have been surprised by how quickly the body recovers.
