Just popped in to my favorite PAUL today on Sunday to buy some bread and croissant and found they closed and the sign removed I was there on Friday 2 days before and there was no sign, nothing saying that they are closing down!!
I am just devastated. Gails is always overcrowded and patisserie choice is a bit different.
Anyone knows WHY, what happened?? My guess the reason is usual -the lease expired and new rated offered can only suit another estate agent office
I think that Paul's is turning into The Biscuiteers - which is better than another estate agent!
Though I love The Biscuit Tree more, which is run by a local mum.
I'm a local mum running a cake and biscuit decorating business (etoile bakery) and have been trying to find a local property in which to set up a baking studio/ shop to run classes and birthday parties. It's certainly true the local rents are perilously high for a young business, but it is also the business rates set by the council that make many of the properties I have seen unfeasible.
It is really hard to find a local commercial property that a small business such as mine can confidently take on. When so many of the larger shops on Northcote Road are closing, what hope is there for the smaller ones?
For now I will continue to do parties in client's homes as it carries less risk!
Hi! harriedmum I run The Biscuit Tree & like many others, sadly cannot afford the rates & rents anywhere in Wandsworth, never mind on my doorstep (Northcote Road). So I run The Biscuit Tree from my kitchen (all registered etc, etc!) & sell online. I make bespoke iced biscuits for party favours or to give as gifts (also do a lot of corporate work for events & product launches).
Without typos!

Such a shame about Recipease - we were sad to see it go too. I think that Paul is actually opening up elsewhere, possibly in CJ station so I think it was strategic, rather than being pushed out because of the rent.
We're really excited to be opening on the old Paul's spot and the layout of the shop is perfect for us as it's all on one floor so you can pop in for a cup of tea and observe classes going on too!
@WalesDavies - we'd love you to pop down and check out our icing cafe when we open. Get in touch on jo@biscuiteers.com and I'll send you an invite
