reception schools application

Postby pepper » Sun Jan 04, 2015 7:17 pm

Hi, I have a question, how to prove a child home address for the school applications. We don't have her medical card as they are not doing anymore, she was born in 2011.
Also, we are living on Eccles road close to lavender hill, so to the best school in nappy valley we have no chance. Any good school around? Its a bit stressfull. Please help.
Many Thanks

Hi,

If you receive child benefit you can use a letter from HMRC confirming you receive the benefit at your current address

Good luck with it all!

Hi pepper,

I would recommend giving the admissions people in the Council a call. They are very helpful, and will be able to tell you exactly where you would have got into from your specific address last year, which at least gives you an idea of what you might get this year. Also, they ought to be able to make a suggestion re: proof of address, if you're running into difficulties on the form. The number provided in this year's booklet is 020 8871 7316.

The vast majority of the schools in Wandsworth are at least good, so I really wouldn't be dragged into the whirl of panic ;-) You ought to be able to get into High View on St John's Hill?

All the best with your application!

As Lemonzest said, there are lots of good schools around, not just the two that everyone talks about! Take time to go to the open days and get a feel for your local schools. Good luck.

You would be in the catchment area for Shaftesbury Park Primary, and the bilingual stream, if you'd be interested in that. http://shaftesburypark.wandsworth.sch.u ... ual-school

You could arrange to visit the school I'm sure- contact details on the website.

How is the High View School? I heard that its not a great school. Can you tell me more about it if your children are going there? Many Thanks

High View is a good school. My child was very happy, and made great progress, in the nursery class there. We moved out of the area, so she is now attending a school elsewhere, but I would have been pleased for her to continue in the school if I were able to manage the commute. I would recommend visiting High View (and other schools which you might be in with a chance of getting into) to get a feel for the school, speaking to parents at the school gates, and having a leaf of the OFSTED report/results.

Hi Pepper

You can prove your address with your council tax bill.

Also with regards to High View School, I have a very good friend who lives just round the corner from the school but was adamant that she didn't want her child to go there and instead wanted to try for one of the other 'better' schools in the area for reception last September. Unfortunately, she didn't get one of the 'better' schools but instead got a place at High View which she had to accept. She went to the induction days at the school and saw it wasn't so bad and then her son started in September and settled in really well and has made some good friends at the school. My friend kept her son on the waiting lists for other 'better' schools just in case and a place came up at one of the other 'better' school at the end of October but my friend decided to keep her son at High View because he had made great progress in his learning, had settled into the school very well and she felt very comfortable that it was the right school for them. The class sizes are much smaller than most of our local schools because people tend to write it off based on old reputation.

My advice to you would be to go and visit all the schools in the area, especially the ones that are not on the 'better' school lists as you may be surprised. We are lucky in Wandsworth that we have a large number of exceptional outstanding schools but the ones that are just 'good' also strive to be outstanding and sometimes that is a better thing.

My eldest is in Y1 now but I remember going through this process a few years ago and to be honest I found that I actually preferred the schools that did not have an outstanding rating, just a personal choice at the time.

Good luck!

accept the school given or go private, but apply for the schools of your choice every year and you might well get in. Also remember, bad schools become good and good schools can be ruined by boundary interference.... (BP for instance)

Hey there

I've been in a similar situation, needing to prove my child's address. I got an 'affitdavit' (spelling? sorry) from a solicitor.

Hey, I called to the council and the concil tax bill is enough to prove child and parents address. He also said that you dont need to add it until they might ask, so dont worry too much. I attached the bill anyway :)
