Child with "Flat feet / Flat arches"

Postby BFW » Tue Jan 13, 2015 10:30 am

Hello,

Does anyone have any experience with Flat Feet / Flat arches in a child. My 9 year old has flat feet and our GP won't refer us to a podiatrist as apparently this is entirely normal in a child. I am only worried as it seems to be getting worst in one foot - she has no pain in her feet but walks / runs in quite a strange way and her shoes wear out really quickly.

Just wondering whether anyone has experience with this and whether anyone can recommend a podiatrist for a check up and to make sure everything is as it should be !

Thank you all !

Hi, not much experience but we did have concerns about our little girl having flat foot (she was 18 monthp at the time), so we took her to Tracey Byrne, who specialises in infant podiatry. She was rreally lovely and put our concerns to rest. Her website ishttp://www.tracybyrne.co.uk.

Our son had a bit more than flat feet, as his feet were turning in, which was having an impact on his hips etc and could have caused more severe problems when he got older. We were recommended to go to http://www.therapy4kids.co.uk/ and they've been brilliant.

In general, my understanding is that flat feet aren't a problem in themselves, but if they are a sign of something else, ie a postural/muscoskeletal issue, then it's worth getting your child checked out early, so it can be corrected.

We went for about 3 months, and now just have to go for a check up when he turns 3 to check all is in order
