Ski weekend without kids - recommendations?!

Postby Americano » Tue Jan 27, 2015 2:14 pm

Hi everyone,

My husband and I would love to do a long weekend away skiing - without the kids! Having never just been for a weekend I wondered if anyone has accommodation recommendations?

We would go away Wed-Sun in Feb so I'm assuming a hotel is the best option as you generally take a chalet for a week. A short-medium transfer time to the resort would be preferable too.

Many thanks for your help!

I can recommend a local mum who runs a ski travel agency,

I'm sure she will have good suggestions.

Morzine is a good resort to look at. Short transfer from Geneva and plenty of accommodation options and that includes some chalet options. We have used Reach 4 the alps before, their chalets and quality of the food are of an excellent standard. We have just booked with them again this year for a short break. Wednesday - Sunday is more popular than Sunday - Wednesday. We take the 6am ish flight from Gatwick and are on the slopes by lunchtime, on the return we take the 9:15pm flight which means we can get a full days ski-ing in and have dinner before we check-in.

Hope you manage to find something.

Another company to look at, although I haven't used them.

Megeve is beautiful, romantic, amazing hotels and a good transfer from Geneva. It's a lower resort so best to check the snow reports.

Courmeyer in Italy is also very nice with a lovely atmosphere in town. Great, smarter cocktail bars and chic hotels. Transfer time from Milano Malpensa is about 90 mins. You can book directly with hotels and also there is a company that do transfers if you Google online. There's always car hire too :-)

Good Luck

Courmayeur is lovely but you'd have to break all the speed limits to get there in 90mins from Malpensa!!!! I work there every season and it is great. You can fly into Turin with BA which is your quickest option. There is an evening flight out too.

Feel free to pick my brains as much as you like about the resort as I've stayed in many of the hotels and skied the nearby resorts of Pila and La Thuile.

What level of skier are you both? What do you want to do e.g. ski hard all the time or some relax down time too?

I agree that Courmayeur is a great option. We went a couple of years ago for our first weekend without the kids Thurs - Sun and it was perfect. We found the Geneva flights were all really expensive but flying to Turin was cheap and easy to get a hire car with a very easy drive up to the resort. We just looked at trip advisor for hotels and chose one close to the lifts. The town itself is lovely, not too big and plenty of nice little restaurants.

Hi everyone,

Thanks so much for your recommendations, these are all great! Having never done a few days away I didn't really know where to start! I'll have a look at all the options - a few of the resorts keep popping up which is a good sign too. And great to have recommendations for travel agencies/trip advisor too. Thank you everyone!

We are doing just that so I did quite a bit of research into it, exploring all sorts of option. We have got for 4 days in Lech as it is such a pretty and romantic looking resort has a short transfer and access to a large ski area. We booked through www.seventytentravel.com who could not have been more helpful.
