Shutters

Postby scrummymummy3 » Wed Feb 11, 2015 5:00 pm

Hello

Has anybody used the traditional shutter company for their shutters? or any other company?

We are looking to get new shutters up in our living room, the kind that go half way up the window. I have seen a few crisp white ones through neighbours windows and they look great, not to mention keeping prioing eyes such as mine out. :D

Any advice wuld be very helpful. thank you in advance.

We used Thomas Sanderson for our shutters and they are stunning. They're made in England, not in China or the far East like many other brands. They're solid wood (not MDF) and spray painted so no cracking. The mechanical parts are very sturdy and there is no wobbling of the shutters when you go to open or close the blades. The stability is due to the positioning of the rod that connects the blades. The rod is located on the far right side of each shutter, which makes them invisible from the outside, and makes the shutters look so much nicer! The warranty is 25 years too. If you need to change the existing shutters within 5 years, Thomas Sanderson gives you 50% off that order.

We used Thomas Sanderson in our previous home and loved them, so we've done it again for our new home here in Wandsworth. Can't recommend the customer service enough or the craftsmanship and professionalism of the installers. :)

We bought our shutters a couple of years ago from the traditional shutter company, they were delivered on time and fitted beautifully. We were extremely happy with the whole service and would happily recommend them to anyone looking for a friendly and very professional service. The shutters still look stunning and keep any prying eyes away :|

We used Shutterly Fabulous recently.
We had quotes from both TSC and SF and their timelines are quite similar.
Wooden panels, made in UK. Took them less than 30 minutes to install though.

We used the Traditional Shutter Company for half height shutters in our bay a couple of years ago. Very happy with them. We didn't use their fitting service (we have an odd shaped and somewhat wonky bay so got our carpenter to fit them) so can't comment on that.

TSC have (or had) a slightly different style of shutter from most companies: with all shutters there is a frame that screws to the window and then the separate louvred panel which moves. I found most shutter companies have the frame around the outside of the louvred panel, whereas with TSC the frame sits behind the louvred panel.

I preferred the TSC style because I thought it gave a cleaner look (not so many lines visible, and more light) and also because we were likely to have to mess around with the frames a bit to get them to fit our bay's weird angles, so the fact they were hidden behind was a benefit. However it does mean the whole lot sticks out more from the window (not a problem for us but might be if eg you wanted Roman blinds to go over the top?)

The only other company I found which had the TSC style was New Englnd but they cost a lot more!

Anyway I may be out of date and the styles have changed but thought it was worth mentioning.
