Advice on moving to Hong Kong

Postby Movingabroad » Sat Feb 14, 2015 10:58 am

Hi there
We are moving to Hong Kong later on this year as a family. We would welcome any advice about relocation. Any advice really but practically what should we take? Thank you in advance.

We leave for Singapore in 6 weeks with a family of 4 so not quite gone. One of my most useful sources is I found a really good expat Facebook page for Singapore. All wives and what ever question you post there you get lots of replies. Mine have ranged from shipping, accommodation, areas to live, helpers etc.

Lucky you, I lived in HK for 3 years pre kids and loved it.

In terms of what to take I imagine it really depends on who's paying for shipping. You can get everything in HK and I don't really remember there being a big price difference between here and there. HK has an Ikea as well as well as high end designer furniture and lots of people have things custom made in China. Plug sockets are the same so you could take your electronics if you so wished. One thing to be conscious of is that in general space is at far more of a premium than here in London so furniture that you have here may be too large for your accommodations there.

From a clothing perspective, I would say that sizes larger than a UK12 are not as well catered for, ditto larger bra sizes but figleaves etc ship to HK so it's not really an issue.

Don't take bikes unless your a hard core enthusiast, no one cycles.

If you have any more specific questions please do feel free to PM me.

Hope you have a great time out there.
