Group b strep

Postby anett » Mon Jun 29, 2015 7:49 pm

Hi there,
Wondering if anybody knows where I could be tested for group B streptococcus. I am in my 37th week. It is a routine test in my home country but not in the UK.
Thanks.Anett

HI there,
After having no luck with my GP I had this done privately at the London Ultrasound Centre in Harley Street.

They were brilliant, I got an appointment next day and they rushed the results as it was close to Christmas. Think it was about 100 GBP. Good luck x

If you email the address on this website they send you a test kit which you then send off to a Harley Street clinic - they will then text you the results.

Have you asked your GP? I am a GP and would do this if someone asked. Equally if you don't want to pay and GP difficult you can go to a sexual health clinic- it will come up on a normal swab that they do to look for most infections/thrush.

I have already emailed my details for the free kit.

I have asked my midwife but she said she would nit do it I could have it privately. I am going to see my GP on Monday. I see what she says.

Make sure you do the test as late as you can - the postal service (which I used) recommend 35-37 weeks, but a clinic might be able to turn it around even later. This is to try to guard against getting a negative result and then going on to develop it closer to delivery.

I am 37+3.
I will see my gp on Monday I might wait till then in case she would do it for me . As it was recommended by one of the mums in an earlier post.
but this heat does not help, I wold like the test done before I go into labour.
