Northcote House Nursery

Postby LP73 » Tue Sep 01, 2015 10:36 am

Does anyone have any experience with Northcote House Nursery?
Their admin has been shocking when dealing with our application, I've had to chase our application three times despite our cheque being cashed straight away.
The nursery looks great however if the admin is anything to go by .......??!

Hi, our little one goes to Northcote and I have to say we are very happy, she has a smile on her face everytime I pick her up and that is the important thing at the end of the day. She also happily jumps into the carers arms in the morning! :)
In terms of admin, we actually had a good experience when we joined and so did other friends so it's a shame you haven't had the same experience. Hopefully they pick up on this post and you see a change!

Thanks it's good of you to come on and reply as you've never posted before!!
I've had a few PM from other mums sayin that they had huge admin issues.
Yes I've heard that the nursery is good but if you read through the contract there are also a number of errors and I am not talking spelling or grammar.
Hopefully for all of us on the waiting list they will get back to us at some stage, like I've said they are happy to cash the £50 cheque yet have provided zero information following that - not even a letter of thanks for the cheque!!

I'd echo the initial responder. We've used the nursery for over 4 years with two children and have always been really happy with the care provided. They have changed the nursery a fair bit over those years - all for the better. (New building, changing ages on rooms, responding to inspections) Admissions admin and finance are separate individuals. The admin responsibilities have recently changed which may explain your problem. I suspect if you call them, or just pop in, it could be sorted. Ask to speak to Shellie, the nursery manager. I'll mention this post the next time I'm in too.

Don't let the poor admin put you off. Personally, I'd rather have a nursery my little ones are very happy in and room for improvement in the admin, but I understand it can be frustrating when you are looking to confirm a place.

We love Northcote House! Admin has always been good for us-on the odd occasion finance have got something slightly wrong but it's always been rectified very quickly. Staff are lovely, and the manager, Shellie, is FAB. My little boy is v happy there.

Also found the admin shocking, had to chase on numerous times re place/start date after hearing nothing for months (despite other mum friends getting places for the same dates and days requested and we all applied at the same time). I also pointed out the errors in the contract/paperwork to which I got a lax response along the lines of 'ok, will get someone to look through it'... Hopefully this post gets them to review their t&cs.

Yet to start there but have heard great things about the nursery and how happy the children are, so I agree with the above posters that as long as my little one is in good hands, that is what matters most... Looking forward to our starting there!!! x

Hi All
Thanks everyone for using NVN.

I've removed the particular name reference and replaced it with

<name removed by moderator>

I know that if NHN want to reach you for clarification then they will but in the past we've had some issues over particular people being "called out" and then there being extenuating circumstances for their behaviour.

I'm not saying this is the case here but I do want to tread on the side of caution.

Thanks again and shout if any questions!

:-)

Our little girl has been extremely happy at Northcote House, in the baby room, the toddler room and now Bennerley House, which has more of a pre school feel. I have always found the staff to be caring, friendly and nurturing with the children. Please don't let the frustrations you have experienced in admin colour your view of the care provided at the nursery.

Thanks - the school did drop me a direct message but in all honesty I think the message should have been posted for all to see.
We won't be going to this nursery moving forward, I'm disgusted that we have still had no contact from the nursery directly.
Whilst I understand that the staff are caring etc a well ran business needs a great team all around and sadly they fail hugely

Honestly have you ever received a thank you letter for dropping some money in a waiting list... I think that I have been on at least 20 to 50 waiting lists for different kids stuff since they are born and don't remember getting that many!!
I have done 4 different nurseries for my girls in the past, so I think I am starting to have a strong opinion of what is a good nursery and what is not and when I arrived in Clapham, lovely Shellie made me visit the nursery a couple of days after I asked for a visit I really like it as soon as I visited and wasn't disappointed at all hen my girls came in + my experience with the registration process wasn't at all as bad as what you describe it.
Have you ever had to deal with nurseries or schools admin before ? Because if not this might be the reason why you are shocked... It is always long and often complicated.
As for me, my girls have been very happy at the nursery, we have had a try at every room and have been enjoying it a lot. My last one is in the middle room, she is going everyday, she has fun and loves the staff so this is the most important to me.
You should call them and tell them in person, maybe your file didn't arrive at the right moment, unfortunately it happens (change of staff or bad timing...) I am sure they will be very happy to help.

First a common point - none of the schools or nurseries that we have contacted and registered at in the past four years ever got back to us without us chasing them up except Northcote House. Not one. Despite them all accepting funds to cover admin fees. The system at Northcote House was the most logical, actually: every so often they sent out an email requesting that all parents who were still interested, reply. Disaster hit when we were away when one of these emails arrived and I missed it. But after I contacted Anna, she not only reinstated us on the wait list, she found us a place earlier than expected, for more days than we had initially been promised. She called immediately and talked me through the entire thing until it was settled. It is not true the they have had a history of accidents or anything like it. There was one accident that required an ambulance for a girl who was treated without sustaining any lasting injuries eighteen months ago. I raised a concern after this, and in response, the owner and the manager spent over an hour with me just to talk things through. This was a candid, free-ranging discussion about all aspects of the nursery. I have felt blessed and immensely grateful every time I picked up my little one or dropped him off for almost three years now. I think you may have caught some bad luck or one individual on a bad day, but remember the nursery employs thirty people, and unlike almost all the others out there, none of them are temping - they are all permanent staff who only join the team after a three month trial- that is more thorough vetting than any other school or nursery I know.

Actually both Marmalade Cat, The Kindergartens and Newton Prep all acknowledged receipt of monies and invited us to an open day or private showing.

We paid our monies when our little one was only a couple of weeks old as to not miss a place so up until that point we had not even visited any of the nurseries.

It was nice for the three mentioned above to communicate. I mean it's just good manners if nothing else to say you for giving me £50 that we use for admin even though you may not even take a nursery place!! Admin that often doesn't exist .......

Anyway enough time has been wasted on this now and we've made our decision based on many things.
