Hi

I'm starting to plan my new kitchen and I was wondering if anybody could recommend any local builders?

Also - what worktops did you opt for? Are wood a nuisance to maintain? Is a boiling water tap worth it?

We got ours from www.giqdesign.com and it's great. They will fit it and can advise on wood etc. They are mostly employed by interior designers and architects, but you can go direct. They do all price ranges - would recommend/ info@giqdesign.com

The worktop you choose is very much dependant on your wants and needs. There are so many on the market now with such a wide variety of pro's and con's it's difficult to suggest one off the cuff. A good starting point would be a Quartz composite .... very tough, plenty of colours to choose from, widely available and currently very competitively priced.

To answer your question, yes wood requires a high level of maintenance compared to other worktops. They need to be regularly sanded and oiled and a higher degree of care has to be taken when using one.

I strongly believe an instant hot water tap is a great addition to any kitchen, and I think within the next 5-10 years they will be specified in more or less all kitchens like dishwashers are now. Again there are plenty on the market but I think Quooker are still the best. Look at their website, it will give you all the info you need.
