Quest for really natural highlights

Postby VRB » Wed Apr 06, 2016 10:12 am

I have been going to a really excellent colourist in a West End salon for many years, but the cost has been creeping up to the point where it is now £220+ for a half head of highlights, which means that it costs more than £300 for a half head plus a cut. This is beginning to feel like an extraordinary amount of money, especially as my priorities are changing, and somewhere slightly more local would be ideal. On the odd occasion I have "cheated" on my colourist over the years, however, it has been a disaster and the highlights have been really quite obvious, even though I am naturally mid/dark blonde and do not significantly lighten my hair - I am mainly looking to put a bit of tone and movement in my hair.

Can anyone recommend a really good colourist in NV who can do really natural-looking highlights, ideally for a slightly more sensible price? Or am I just kdding myself and £300+ is just what it costs these days? I am in Wandsworth, but am happy to travel a bit further...

Try Denise at the Drawing Room. Lauren at Rush also did a good job, very natural but it seemed to fade quickly (but that may be because I didn't go light enough).

And no £300 is not just what it costs! More like between £120-200 at the places I've tried, for half head and cut.

I am really happy with my highlights in Sanrizz in knightsbridge, the cost would be around £150 but they are really good

I recently used Gianni for my highlights. He's really good and my hair looks the best it has in a long time. I too have been disappointed with local salons in the past, even the more expensive ones. Gianni used to work at one of the big salons (sorry I forget which one) and now works freelance and will come to your house. There's been a lot of hype about him recently on the Facebook group SW11 mums. You can check out his feedback on there. His name is Gianni iavarone.

Hi,

I always use a lady called Charlotte John. She's an AMAZING freelance hairdresser based in Tooting who can either come to you, or if clients prefer a 'salon experience', will also operate out of a lovely independent salon in Teddington. Her business is called 'Hair by Charlotte' and can be found on facebook if you want to see some of the examples from her portfolio (including some stunning wedding hair creations). She's been my hairdresser for years and has loads of experience! She's definitely not the 'cheapest' (because she's really good), but she's definitely more affordable than the prices mentioned at the beginning of this post (I think half a head of highlights with her is about £75)! Her number is 07966 716318.

Thanks

JJ

I have super dark hair naturally but started going grey at the grand old age of 24 so wanted some highlights put in to disguise the greys. I googled best salons in London for highlights and found Radio Hair Salon in Shoreditch recommended. I am a bit of a hair diva so I was worried about going for it but they are the best highlights ever and I have now been going to the same girl for 3 years! I see Sarah at the Redchurch Street salon and it costs £120 for a half head.

I also paid for my sister to have some highlights put in before her wedding with Sarah and she loved them (she had virgin dark brown hair so quite a leap of faith for her too), and we recently just went back together to get a top up. She does them super fine and manages to mix really natural colours for both of us, she is amazing!

At one point in 2014 I decided £120 was too expensive so went to Headmasters on Clapham High Street for their Me Day Monday offer. It was an unmitigated disaster so now I would never cheat on Sarah!
