Salary for Nanny on Holiday

Postby zanzibar2 » Tue Feb 22, 2011 4:15 pm

Hi All,

We have a part-time Nanny who is wonderful, and we are planning on bringing her with us for a 3 night stay abroad this Summer.

I'm not sure how to structure her pay for this ... she will not be working the entire time we're away, but we'll definitely need her for night duty on all 3 nights. During the days she'll probably just have the children for an hour or two.

Has anyone else brought thier Nanny on holiday, and do you pay them for every 24 hours they're with you? Ie, £100 for the day, then £100 for the night shift and so on ...

Also are there any Nannies who have thoughts on this!

Thank you ...

Dear Zanzibar2,
We at Gwendolen House Childcare are asked quite often for a holiday nanny as families realise more and more how useful and enjoyable they can be ! Here is a few guidelines we hope you will find useful:
1) I think you are aware that you need to be prepared to cover all the costs of the nanny's transport, food/drink and accommodation whilst she is with you on holiday.
2) For the hours that the nanny is caring for your children she needs to be paid her usual rate per hour. This includes the hours when she babysits for you. So in your case you should pay her for the hours babysitting for three nights, plus for the couple of hours a day that she cares for the children.
3) The nanny will then have some time off in the holiday location which is the perk for her, alongside having an all expenses paid change of scene interspersed with a little childcare !
4) Please make sure you sit down and talk through all your expectations of your holiday nanny, and your nanny tells you hers, so that all is clear before you confirm her and book her flights/travel etc. In your case, although she may only be earning money for 6 hours or so a day, make sure she knows that you will be paying all her costs.
If you would like some more advice please feel free to call us. We are happy to help.
For future reference we charge nothing for a parent to register to look for a holiday nanny with us. We will then call you for a chat to get all the finer details, then send you only CVs that fit your needs. There is an Agency Fee of £60 per week due only if you hire one of our holiday nannies.
Best regards
