You do realise that is against the law in the UK to discriminate based on nationality. It's surprising that you've posted this job on a discussion board that serves a diverse community with people from all over the world who may be excellent candidates for the post you are trying to fill.

It is pretty appalling, isn't it. I was reading it, thinking yes, that's me (I was a career receptionist, with 20yrs experience before becoming a mum) until I got to the English bit. I speak English like a native - I was raised here, and am a Home Counties girl, but I wasn't born here so I don't qualify.

Perhaps I should apply, and when I'm disqualified I can claim it's a race issue and kick up a fuss

Will be avoiding Middleton Jeffers as a recruitment consultant.

I'm sure it just meant to emphasise that perfect spoken and written English required, plus manners and grace, but for a recruitment consultant all but say 'only English people need apply' is shocking.
