Thanks Julian. The value of boredom and also the detrimental effect of television. I have noticed that when I let my usually fairly strict limits on screen time slip my children find it increasingly hard to entertain themselves once it's switched off. When in a holiday rental with no TV or screens on offer and no toys either they can amuse themselves for hours with a few sticks and stones, make villages for 'pet' woodlice, engage imaginative role play etc.

I posted because I think there is so much pressure to sign up to every club going (including tennis!) that there's no space for children to 'breathe'.

Personally I think it's crucial for children to find their own way rather than just becoming skilled automotons. But it's just my opinion.
