Ok as far as I can gather it goes a bit like this. Is Article 50 reversible? Well the answer according to Donald Tusk is "probably"(!). The terms were left deliberately vague as they couldn't anticipate the circumstances that might occur if a state decided to leave.
At this point, in theory, if there was a change in Govt, let's say a hung Parliament where the Lib-Dems had the balance of power with the SNP. They could insist on a new referendum (either on the Brexit deal or a new one based on the inaccuracies of the campaign for example).
Assuming the referendum was a rejection of Brexit, the UK Govt, could then request to withdrawn Article 50, which would be put to all member countries. Then we would be back to pre-referendum status.
However.............................it all seems highly unlikely. Corbyn has struck the right note in trying to focus on domestic issues like the NHS and education where the Conservatives are in trouble. Labour are fighting for their lives in traditional working class areas in England where UKIP have a presence and throughout the whole of Scotland. Labour will not fight against Brexit where, I'm of the opinion, that Corbyn is a tacit supporter.
The Lib-Dems, does anyone see them taking seats in big numbers throughout the country? I just don't see it. A Richmond By-Election is one thing, a General Election another. UKIP will poll votes but not seats and nowhere near as many as the last election. All adds up to a big Conservative win, which will bolster May's position within the party and possibly avoid a hard Brexit.
Remember that depends on how hard the EU member states want to play too and I think very hard is the answer. There's no doubt that there is a significant grouping within the EU that would like to see the UK leave. These range from Federalists like Junkers to countries who see it as a once in a generation opportunity to cherry pick the City of London.
So in sum, unless there's an extension in the Article 50 timetable until the General Election after June 8th, I think we are leaving by one method or another.
