Latest Clara Bee project - Artist's Studio in Wandsworth

Postby Clara Bee » Mon May 08, 2017 2:25 pm

The latest project was a wonderfully creative challenge for Clara Bee; take an unused Victorian side return and design, build, and fit out an artist's studio.

The new space is filled with light from new roof lights, a glazed link to the house and bi-fold doors at the front. It is a beautifully calm and inspiring area in which to work, as well as a practical and fun addition to a busy family house, with a utility area, sauna and access to a newly created courtyard garden at the front.

There are lots more fantastic photos on [url]http://www.clarabee.com/project/coming- ... tudio//url]

To be honest first impressions - it's pretty humdrum run of the mill stuff. Standard looking roof lights, exposed brick, some spot lights.... hardly a design revolution. But if that's what the client wanted then fair play to you, I just hope they didn't pay for "design"!

(Sorry if this seems rude, but if you posted it on here surely you were expecting comments!)

I LOVE it! Having seen so many same, same ways to incorporate a side return, this is fabulous. I initially thought that it was a large mirror, but love that it is a window between the spaces .. different and clever. I've been thinking about space that might work for the children and our areas, and am truly inspired, love the idea of having a window to keep an eye on them, but give them their own space and can see great uses for it down the years as they get older. And maybe one day I could have it as a studio... well I can dream!

(that's blatantly Clara's mate... a window is a very clever and different thing to have in a house extension- seriously?! )

If people want to use this discussion forum for adverts for their businesses, then I think it's fair to give my honest opinion for discussion.

Interesting looking at the other photos - what was the space before? Parking or a garage?
