Builders for a total refurb Post Reply

Hi, We are looking to do a full refurb of our house including side infill and loft extensions so need some advice.

I have seen many builders doing work in the area and many discussed here. We need to narrow down to 2 builders to get quotes from (another 2 will come from our architect). Any views / experience ?

We used Upsher Harrison for our whole house refurb, they were fantastic and the finish is very high. I had quotes from some of the bigger companies but chose UH as they are a much smaller company and the service completely bespoke, some of the larger companies had so many projects on the go I worried ours would get lost in the pile - if I was to do it all over again I wouldn't hesitate in using Upsher Harrison.

Are you still looking? I have a good suggestion but you may have already chosen a company already as it looks like you have a short list. I've used the same company for many of my rental houses in Wandsworth that need to be refurbished to a high standard with loft conversions/extensions and kitchen extensions. Mascot are very good, you won't regret using them.

Just don't use builders recommended by 'the good London builder ltd' - we have had a few significant problems a few years down the line that aren't being rectified.

We had our entire house refurbished - everything ripped out and new floors, walls, windows, roof, electrics, plumbing, 3 bathrooms etc added and brickwork cleaned and repointed. We used Martin Sek at New Smart Living and he was fantastic. http://newsmartliving.co.uk.

Even before he provided a quote Martin too us to four houses he had refurbished so we could meet former clients and see the teams work and also so he could get an idea of what finish we were looking for. Hi there - we have recently had our build completed with Canon Interiors and I cannot recommend them highly enough. On time, bang on budget and a team of really really lovely guys. They managed everything from planning, party wall, 2D, 3D design, interiors and project management of the build; it was all so easy. They did an amazing job on my 3 bed home, i've been raving about them to all who'll listen since. I had a loft conversion with sky lights and a whole rear extension done.
Friendly team too and made sure we were consulted throughout the process.

We just finished a full refurb (combing 2 flats into a house with everything new + extension) and would highly recommend Mark Tiarks from Foxbury Building. They are a small company so limit the number of jobs they do and really care about every detail. I would agree with a previous post, it is really important to see a few houses that any builder you chose does so that you speak with the owners and also see the quality of work. We wouldn't hesitate in using Mark again.
