cordless hand held vacuum recommendations please

Postby sparkletiger » Thu Sep 14, 2017 4:52 pm

I'm looking for a cordless hand held vac that works well on floors but also sofas. Friends have recommended the Dyson V6 animal. It's quite pricey, but I'm happy to pay if it does the job. Don't have pets so animal hair not an issue. Just mostly crumbs and bits on sofa and floors. What have you got that totally does the job?

We have a dyson V6 and we love it with one issue, the filter.
Do NOT wash it. Hoover it with you big hoover and/or take it outside and give it a bashing.
If you wash it, it will smell awful as not all the water will dry quickly and where it doesn't, whatever is mixed with it will rot and stink.
I spoke at length with Dyson about this and they were without doubt as useful as a chocolate teapot and defended their product and told me to buy another filter.
Here endith...
ps, buy one with the small head designed for picking up hairs. This one you'll use for the stairs,,

A Vax Gator handheld is what we use for this, brilliant at only £30.

Customer service is awesome too -- the first one refused to hold a charge after just over a year, they sent a replacement the next day. In fact, they accidentally sent two replacements and refused to take the second one back, so now my parents have one too! And no issues for over five years.

We have a Dyson and it works wonders. In regards to the filter, you can actually take it apart! Apparently Dyson customer service will not know this, a Dyson engineer came to my house and showed me this trick. He said never wash unless you dismantle the filter top and get rid of all the accumulated dirt inside before washing or it will smell.

Another vote for the Vax Gator, I think ours cost more like £50 though.
