5.5 year old swimming

Postby Lilybetta1 » Wed Nov 15, 2017 11:58 am

Hi all
My 5.5 year old just won't go in the water and can't be coaxed - I think its really just scared more than anything else and he hates trying new things (we've only recently got over a stint of bath refusal and he now loves it though). Does anyone have any recommendations for any swimming teacher who might be able to help with this or is it a case of a lot of perseverance and taking him to the leisure centre a lot even if he doesn't go in? Anyone who has faced this and has any advice would be appreciated. I'm getting worried what it will be like when school swimming starts.
Thanks!

SwimWay were fantastic with my previous nanny child. She started at 4years old with a real hate for swimming lessons.
The Wimbledon location is a private pool within a house and it really helped her calm down about the experience.

South West swimming have worked wonders on my son’s swimming and confidence in the water. When he was 5 we tried swimming at a local leisure centre but after six weeks of refusing to get in the pool I switched him to South West swimming at Henry Cavendish school. My son’s main issue was a fear of the swimming pool drains and something bad happening if he went too near them. South West swimming is pretty pricey but the teachers made him forget about his fear and just get on with the swimming. Nearly two years later he is now swimming lengths of Emmanuel pool with flippers on and the drains are no longer an issue.
