Can you recommend a good Thai Takeaway/Delivery Please???

Postby Denwand » Fri Jan 19, 2018 3:02 pm

For years we have used Amaranth in Garratt Lane but since they closed their dedicated take-away shop it means we have to use their ( very busy and chaotic ) restaurant instead.

This has slowed things down considerably and anyway, we would like to try a different Thai takeaway for a change.

We tried Hungryhouse and Deliveroo but the Thai takeaways listed seem to be Chinese restaurants that do Thai "on the side"and were disappointing as a result.

Anyone recommend a delicious alternative? :D

Thanks in advance

Like Thai Garden to eat in, just find something lost in the quality when delivered - like the crispiness of prawns in batter/breadcrumbs.

I judge a good place on the quality of its beef massaman curry and had the best one ever recently at Kaosarn Tooting High Road down towards Blackshaw Road, proper beef slow cooked, melt in your mouth. So Banana Tree on Battersea Rise my favourite ever beef rendang for same reason.

Camile also quite good, kids liked the green curry, but I was disappointed with the massaman - it was thin "flat" meat beef like we used to get at school.

Now I'm starving!

Thank you so much for all your suggestions - i am going to have fun trying them all out!

I love a good beef massaman myself FLH03 and I agree it's a good "test dish" to judge the quality of a good Thai. I used to judge Indian restaurant by the quality of their tarka dhal.

There seems to be a lot of Chinese takeaways offering "Thai" meals that seem to cook the meat separately and just ladle the sauce on afterwards depending on what you order - be i red or green curry or even massaman...horrible!

Another vote for Tumnum Thai on Lavender Hill. Never had a bad meal or delivery from them

Banana Tree is good.

But deliver editions has a top chef ... something called Busai or similar.

Have a look ... it was really amazing when I gave it a whirl
