Hi,

Does anyone know if Swaffield is a good primary school?
It was not top of our list and I don't know anyone who's children attend.

Is this a safe school? Good education? Large/smaller classes? Teachers...?


Any feedback greatly apprechiated

Hi there,

Both my sons are at Swaffield and they are so happy there. The teachers and teachers assistants are all lovely, there are lots of clubs before and after school, and both my boys are flourishing despite having very different strengths. There are about 22 in my youngest's class (Year 1) and about the same in my eldest (year 3) so nice class sizes without being jam packed.

I think you can make an appointment with Mrs Lilley (Headteacher) and go have a look around the school.

I have two children at the school (nursery class - starting reception in September; and year 3) and it was our first choice for both of them.

I strongly recommend visiting Swaffield yourself, if at all possible, to get a feel for it - my perspective is that it's a happy, friendly, large, diverse primary school which represents the local area.

My children are making great progress academically, but there is so much more of added value in terms of clubs and activities: my eldest has tried choir, fencing, recorder, chess, Playball, tennis and Bollywood dancing in their 4 years at the school!

The teaching team and staff know the children well and bring out the best in each of them.

Another tip is to come along to the school fair to have a nose around - Saturday 30 June from 12-3pm. You could also have a look at the new website: http://www.swaffield.wandsworth.sch.uk/

That is very reassuring. Although initially upset that my daughter didn't get into our first choices I am starting to have a very good feeling about this school.
We will visit soon as well.
Do you by any chance know to which secondary schools most children go after?

Hi, we love swafffield! I have a little girl in reception, who also went to the nursery there. It was my first choice and is a lovely school for your child to attend. It has a wonderful community feel and just a great vibe. You definitely need to pay us a visit and experience for yourself. The kids are fab! Our youngest will be starting nursery in September there too. My daughters reception class is currently 22, which (speaking as a ex-primary school teacher) is just brilliant. So any questions please do get in touch and rest assured your child will have a fantastic start to their school life at our school.

So far I have only heard positive things I guess I was a bit worried that it didn't have ofstead outstanding, but what comes across is that it seems to be a very happy place for children to go to school.

I wouldn't fixate on Ofstead rating as often it is not a true reflection of the school.The schools know when the Ofstead inspector is coming and everyone is told to be on their best behaviour to give a good impression.Which school was your first choice?

Yes I can imagine.
Our first choice was Belleville- which everyone seems to be raving on about.

They are quite distant from each other,Swaffield is in Earlsfield and Belleville is in Clapham Junction.
Which school is the closest to you? Also,from experience and learned the hard way...just because they are raving about a school doesn't mean that it will work for every child and every family.

Belleville is a 10-min walk and Swaffield 25 /30min
Location wise Belleville would suit better,but I don't mind as long as the school is good.

Hello, our daughter is at Swaffield, and we love it. I don’t need to repeat what the others have said, but just to add that initially Belleville was our first choice- probably due to hype too.
We got a place Swaffield but then got bumped up the waiting list by the end of the summer term! We visited both schools again on the same day and we decided without a doubt to stick with Swaffield. It was a no brainier, we just knew our daughter would be happy there! It sounds silly, but your gut tells you!

Oh and also to say that there are a couple of threads from last year about Swaffield when I and others were asking similar questions; you might want to read them too. I’m sure if you search on the schools section you’ll find them.
