Serious Scooter Mugging in Balham

Postby LP73 » Mon Jul 23, 2018 7:42 am

Yesterday afternoon in day light on a very quiet street in Balham (Byrne Road) a mugging took place.
Two large men on a scooter who had sat on a road opposite before mugging a man for his watch.
They use force, threatened the man (and someone who tried to help the man being mugged) with a large knife and the muggers also used what was thought to be a pepper spray.

Families were walking past at the time. The police were called and the muggers got away.
This is another bad attack in the area and more happeneing that we do not hear about.
Stay safe everyone.

What makes you believe the mayor is responsible for the police cuts? You must be reading fake news . He is at loggerheads with the government over this issue. As well as cuts to youth services and a whole lot more. It was the Tory government YOU likely voted for. Kids and their parents from poor areas and council estates have been saying for a long time they feel unsafe. Lefties have been complaining about cuts all the time Perhaps now you will pay attention. Lobby the Tories. They ignore everyone other than their voters. in fact they are so useless right now they may even ignore you.

Boris Johnson writing for the Telegraph is fake news.

But the public in this country are mentally retarded, I am convinced now, to accept this bull.

Austerity is the problem here. Not Sadiq Khan the terrorist sympathizer, Selfie Sadiq or whatever you want to call him.

it's austerity. the doing of Cameron , Osborne, May, Rudd etc that has put us all in danger.
Ask someone in the police, fire services, education, youth services
I really feel that wealthy expats and people who grew up in the Shires shouldn't have such a dismissive attitude towards those of us who have more of a clue about what is going on here in London

It is a sorry state of affairs that in 2018, we have to fear walking down our own streets in daylight in case we- or worse, our young children- are threatened with knives as both we and the muggers know that nothing is being done to prevent or deter and criminals are free to do pretty much what they want as they are getting away with it.
I have written to sadiq Khan also - received an acknowledgment that my concern will be passed to mopac. Since writing, I have read of another two attacks written about in this forum so goodness knows how many others have occurred.

It is horrible and I really hope something gets done. We are all at risk but you have to face the funding crisis. I now wonder if I should even wear my engagement ring

Very wise. However, take it off and leave it at home and it will get swiped in a burglary...

It’s hard not to be cynical right now

Unfortunately I never wear my engagement ring when I'm out in London. I have this unequivocal fear someone is going to slice my finger off or worse...

He’s hands are tied in terms of cuts yes, but he can do more!
So he has cash reserves, but he's suffering from monetary restriction?  Straight out of the Gordon Brown School of Economics.

Who is Siddique Khan?

I am concerned about this trend in the area. What is the best way to raise awareness and address the problem? Local MP? If the best route is identified, at least we can be better noticed in that channel.
