Canada goose or Woolrich

Postby Linda19 » Wed Dec 12, 2018 1:03 pm

Hi
I am considering buying a Canada goose or Woolrich winter coat.
It will have to be at least shower proof. Which one would you recommend?
Thank you

May I suggest other labels in the same price bracket? What about Herno or Aspesi? I have 2 jackets from Aspesi and they are stylish, warm, light and shower proof. Also, you are not going to see half of Nappyvalley wearing the same coat as you.Just an idea ;)

I have a Canada Goose and love it! Not cheap but so cosy and warm. There was some negative reaction to them last year - haven't worn it too much this year as it hasn't been warm enough so don't know if that has passed?

I agree it does sometimes feel if they are the coat of choice in WW but there are quite a few different styles now.

Happy shopping!

Canada Goose. I bought one through work, and the the Arctic Parkers are great and there are different colours and designs. They do non-fur options also

Neither. Unless you support animal suffering.

Did you know that the coyote fur trim used for Canada Goose jackets is obtained through ‘trapping’ coyotes in steel leg traps? It’s a very cruel and indiscriminate way of hunting animals (not that any way is humane) and often the coyotes (or other random non-targetted animals) are left for days in these steel traps until the trappers return. In that time the animal may have died of shock/exposure/dehydration or may have tried to gnaw it’s own leg off to get back to it’s pups. If it’s alive when the trapper returns it can look forward to being bludgeoned to death or shot in the head.

There is absolutely no need to support this kind of cruelty and the amount of mums I see on the school run wearing dog (wearing Canada Goose) while walking their own dogs is shocking. There seems to be a massive disconnect or a simple lack of giving a damn.

There are plenty of ethical and technically superior brands to buy that keep you warm. Save the Duck and Hoodlamb are two brands. Hoodlamb make clothes for Sea Shepherd so they know a thing or two about keeping people warm and Save the Duck make artic level clothing. They’re also not cheap but are high quality.

It’s actually sickening to see people supporting brands like Cananda Goose. If they don’t know what they are buying that’s one thing (although I don’t understand how people don’t inform themselves of these things) but when they do know they basically make a statement when they give a company like that their money that their appearance and desire to fit in are more important than the lives of other species. This is everything that is wrong in the world.

I’ve had a Woolrich Arctic Parka for 17 years. No complaints at all. The Coyote fur hood trim is certified road kill. I personally wouldn’t buy Canada Goose. There are more than two companies making garments like these though.

There are protests there on a regular basis.

I can't believe anyone would consider buying Canada Goose - the cruelty that goes into fur production is absolutely horrific - even buying their non-fur options would be supporting a company that has normalised fur wearing for the masses. Think how many of those dreadful fur trims they sell each winter - then extrapolate to how many innocent creatures have been butchered in the most awful ways.

Please think before you buy.

I think it’s not just the coyotes but the way they treat the geese which is also inhumane. Please please don’t buy a Canada Goose coat. As someone else has pointed out I see so many dog-walkers wearing them who don’t seem to realise that the fur comes from a wild dog (or else don’t care).

Thank you for posting this, I couldn't have said it better myself.
There are so many alternative textiles that can keep you warm, without  harming any animals.
