Enjoying another man’s company: dangerous? Pre-schools introduce catchment areas! Aspace closed? Local school round-up!

Last Updated on : 18th January 2016

Dear NappyValleyNetter,

“One bloke.”

As part of the current “Get Mr NVN Fit” campaign I’ve been prodding him to take some exercise.

The prodding turned to pushing until eventually he capitulated and agreed to take part in a class as long as I booked it for him, his view being that he shouldn’t have to expend energy just to join a class when there was a Common to run around on our doorstep.

I didn’t bother pointing out that although the Common had always been there his tummy hadn’t and so I scoured NVN looking for the toughest and most punishing classes when a girlfriend, who was with me as I mulled over options, told me I was taking the wrong tack.

“None of those are bad enough,” she said over a glass of wine, “you need to make it so unpleasant that he’s motivated to keep himself fit without you nagging.”

I must have looked confused.

“Imagine you’re training a puppy, not a grown-up.”

Now I got it. So after speaking with one of those gyms down the side of Wandsworth Common I booked him in for a spin class at 9.30am on a weekday morning.

He came back a fierce shade of pink, though whether through embarrassment or exertion I’m not sure.

It turned out he’d had a bit of a Mastercard moment.

Thirty lovely mums spinning their hearts out and having a wail of a time: wonderful

Only one bloke, all on his own at the front, totally out of condition and swearing he’d do anything to avoid going there ever again: priceless.

Here is what you’ve been talking about on NappyValleyNet (Wandsworth):

1DQ has met a man at work whose company she increasingly enjoys. Only problem is they are both married and she wonders if she’s embarking on an “emotional affair”? Please be aware that when posting a reply this is a real user with a genuine concern, so please do ensure your replies are sensitive and considerate (click here).
