Our area of London town is known for its wonderful wide open spaces and they really come into their own when the sun shines brightly. Wandsworth Heritage Festival launches this weekend and runs for two weeks with walks, talks and hands-on activities on offer, including a print-your-own-pattern workshop on the textile industry of the Wandle Valley and a talk exploring the many ideas there have been for Battersea Power Station’s future. WWT London Wetland Centre takes on a decidedly grassy hue over half term week with life-sized animals made of the green stuff. Have fun finding them as you follow the trail. (read more)

Trinity Triathlon, hosted by Trinity School in Croydon, is open for bookings for young triathletes aged 8 to 19.  Now in its seventh year, it was recognised nationally by Triathlon England as ‘Children’s Event of the Year’ in 2016, so it just remains for us to say “On yer bikes!”  (read more)

Puddle Ducks run regular classes all around the neighbourhood and are now happily using a fully refurbished and lovely, warm pool in SW17 with space for a maximum of 6 water babies and their grown-ups. (read more)

Head up town to Piccadilly next week for a Movie-making book party with Sparks who are launching their new title to inspire the next generation of Bigelows and Scotts. (read more)

Balham Literary Festival is on in early June with a wide range of talks and workshops at The Bedford, including two for children – The Huntress for those aged 9+ presented by author Sarah Driver (read more) and Neon Leon by Jane Clarke about a chameleon who just can’t fit in because he’s, well, neon (for age 3 and up). Take a moment or two for a little me-time in the next few weeks

Southside Players will be performing Alan Ayckbourn’s Bedroom Farce at the Chestnut Grove Theatre next week, the hilarious comedy of marital manners. Might book Mr NVN in for ‘date night’! (read more)

Ticket sales open next week for the Balham Comedy Festival, now in its sixth year and with a brilliant (and brilliantly funny) line up of names at The Bedford.  Go see Stephen K Amos, Sara Pascoe, Ed Byrne and more for a good laugh just around the corner. (read more)

The Avenue Cookery School is holding an Off to Uni Cookery Course this half term, so if that’s one of your more grown-up crew, you can send them off with a few recipes up their sleeves (rather than all over their sleeves..). (read more)
