Cost of removing paint from brick

Postby bamse » Sun Feb 16, 2014 2:23 pm

Hi, I'd be interested in finding out what the going rate is for removing paint from the front of a mid terresed brick house. Also, is it possible to get rid of all of the paint given that bricks are porous?

Thanks

Morning,
I had pebbledash removed and the front of my house, totally refurbished.
www.restorebrick.co.uk did this for us. it wasnt cheap - but paint removal may be less painful.
this company also undertook a brick clean on Mallinson Road for a client of ours. they are competent, timely. We are Architects, and we chose them from a list provided by Wandsworth Planning/Listed Building Officer.
Hope this helps.

Hi
I don't know what it costs but a Neighbour has just had it done and for me it's worth every penny.
The house looked awful - it was bright blue - but it's back to the traditional red brick and looks really smart.
If you would like to see what it could look like, pm me and I can send you their address.

Hi David,
Thanks for the link. It gives me hope that it can be done. We don't actually own the house in question (yet!) so is there any chance you can give me a ball park figure of what you paid? PM me if you prefer. We have no idea what the cost is so need to factor it into our offer price. There's no way I would choose to live in a painted house. I can't believe planning permission isn't required to ruin brick houses with paint!

Hi,
I would speak direct to restore - they would be able to give you a cost indication over the phone with no hassle. the cost associated with removal of pebbledash wouldnt help you.

we used brick restoration and very happy with the job they did. there is a lot of cost in the repair of bricks that don't survive the clean process. we needed about 200 repaired, at £10 a brick. apparently that was on the low side.

We also had painting done and other, but I reckon the paint removal plus brick repair was about £6k.

We had the whole of our house cleaned by a company. This involved having scaffold whilst the works were done. The scaffold for two weeks was £450 and the clean of the front of the house (acid clean) £650 then the entrance way was painted white and we wanted this totally stripped along with various bricks that had white paint on them and this cost a further £600 - totally worth it as the house looks amazing back to the original brick work. We used the guys below who were fantastic and will be able to give you a free quote too :-)
