Spring Skiing with Kids

If it is not Val d’Isere, Tignes or Courchevel 1850, most seasoned skiers won’t even look twice at other resorts when it comes to spring skiing. Despite popular opinion, there are other alpine destinations that tick all the boxes for hitting the slopes at this time of year which we highly recommend.

St Christoph – Austria

This quaint Austrian gem is a snug resort, tucked away in the Arlberg ski area and is home to possibly one of the best mountain restaurants in the Alps. Not only is the food a culinary delight at the Hospiz Alm, you also have the pleasure of accessing the bathroom facilities via a slide – so no trudging down several flights of stairs, like many other mountain hot spots.

Whilst accommodation in St Christoph is mainly four and five star hotels, there is the Chalet Hotel St Christoph, which is a former hotel now run by a family friendly British tour operator. They offer package deals at very competitive rates and with the ski school and piste right next door, it is perfect for families looking for a value for money option in a luxurious (and snow sure) resort.

Prices start from £479 for a 7 night stay in a twin room including flights from London, shared resort transfers and catered chalet board.

Cervinia – Italy

Now, here is a resort that offers something for every skier – fantastic, high beginner slopes for the kids, long red runs in the sun for the intermediate cruiser and then advanced terrain over the other side of the mountain in Zermatt for those wanting more of a challenge.

Staying in the Club Med property takes all the hassle out of organising lessons and ski passes – all you need to add on is the ski hire and then that is your ski holiday sorted. Given that full time childcare is also included, that is a large saving right there –especially if you have several children.

Prices start from £1,490 for a 7 night stay in a twin room including flights from London, shared resort transfers, full board, childcare, ski pass and ski lessons.

Reberty – France

Admittedly, this is not your destination if you have visions of a chocolate box, chic alpine resort. Although, two words that do spring to mind are affordable and practical. Situated in the Three Valleys, Reberty is a purpose built village which is ideal for those wanting doorstep skiing and are not too fussed about the nightlife or non-skiing activities.

Village appeal aside, some of the best catered chalet food in the Three Valleys can be found here at Chalet Sapin de Reberty. Book in for a week and sample some of the gastro delicacies from the highly talented head chef David, who will tailor make meals for you and your children.

Prices start from £696 per person for a 7 night stay in a twin room on catered chalet board.

All accommodation is bookable through Alpine Answers. For more information please call 020 7801 1080 or visit www.alpineanswers.co.uk
