Wandsworth Common footbridge to close. Council objects to “noisy” SW4 Festival. Help: adult threadworm nightmare.
Last Updated on : 21st November 2016
I know you might not want to think about Christmas quite so early on a cold November morning but, a bit like the Trump Presidency, it’s definitely happening so we might as well prepare for it!
So…to help you get the most from the forthcoming holiday we have two events we really want to shout about.
First off Santa’s sledge is the NappyValleyNet Christmas meet-up. I’m delighted to announce that we’re back at “Bills” on Northcote Road and they’ll be throwing open their doors on the 1st of December with complimentary tea, coffee and cake in their warm and cosy restaurant. The wonderful Lemon Tree are providing the gorgeous goody bags and, naturally, there’ll be juice and biscuits for the little ones. Places are VERY limited so please reserve a space here.
Secondly, our world-famous (well, Nappy Valley famous) Au Pair Christmas Meet-Upis also back at All Bar One on the very same day. As before our friends at Ayrton Bespoke have put some money behind the bar so a massive thank you to Ayrton as it means your lovely au pair can have a complimentary yuletide drink. Again, places are very limited, so please ask those interested to sign up ASAP here as quickly as possible!
So a massive thank you to Ayrton, Bills, The Lemon Tree and I’m off to find my tinsel…
Here is what you’ve been discussing this week about on NappyValleyNet:
I really hope we can help with this thread (pun not intended) as it’s causing a lot of stress for one of our regular users. She’s been suffering with threadworms for AGES, its affecting her confidence, s*x life and it’s simply not going away. Please please help if you can (click here). (“*” used to bypass profanity filters – not for modesty!)
CHG77 writes that the wheels from her Audi were stolen last week. Be careful, she warns, if you’re anywhere near Chestnut Grove (click here). Sticking with crime, KH posts that her buggy was stolen from Nightingale Square: it’s a Maclaren blue Techno. Wow, that’s only a few alloy wheel turns away from Chestnut Grove so if you see a Maclaren Techno rocking racy rims then that’s the culprit for both blags! (click here).
JL is looking for a day or half-day silent retreat in London. Any ideas, she asks? I SAID ANY IDEAS? Sorry that wasn’t a very funny joke but if you can help please do post! (click here).
From a silent retreat to the absolute opposite: Wandsworth Council have objected to a proposal for next summer’s three day “SW4 Festival” on Clapham Common. Last year Lambeth Council relaxed the noise conditions and complaints went up 600%! (click here).
The Wandsworth Common “pigs back” railway footbridge is to close for almost a month next year. We’re getting a new one but it’s going to mean a HUGE detour. That’s like the Suez Canal closing but for Nappy Valley! (click here)
I LOVE this thread: “ActuallyaDad” regularly posts about local experiences he loves and it’s always really positive. Thanks AAD and if you want to hear about a great bike shop, a fabby new restaurant and a great show at Battersea Arts Centre then read on! (click here).
Sticking with great local things – the new Italian on Hildreth Street gets a wonderful write up! Bellissimo! (click here).
Caravans descended on Wandsworth Common this week. Wandsworth Council have posted details of their reaction and the law covering camping on the commons. Thank you everyone for your posts (click here).
You know that the “Night Tube” is coming to the Northern Line? Well, not to be outdone, the 319 bus service is also going on an all-nighter! (click here).
I’m writing this at 4pm and it’s already dark! Brighten up your day with the lovely Toddlepass who take away the hassle and uncertainty of booking classes for babies and toddlers. They’re offering NappyValleyNetters a fabulous 75% off your first month. Sticking with wonderful things, the annual Northcote Road Christmas Lights & Market are almost here! The twinkly magic will be start on Friday around 4pm to the dulcet tones of lovely school choirs whilst the Christmas Market will take over the street on the Sunday (click here).
A very useful post from BSM, her local chemist has Men. B vaccines. Thanks for posting! (click here)
Most of you will already be familiar with LikeMinders. Set-up by two local mums it’s an amazing childcare and babysitting service and they’ve just launched a new service – nanny for a granny! Does what it says on the tin! Good luck LM! (click here).
EmilyY won one of our recent competitions and the prize was a ten week course with our friends at the Parent Practice. To say she loved it is an understatement and she’s come over all “unBritish” (her words) in her praise for the sessions and how its helped her become a better parent. I’m thinking of booking in for “Sibling Rivalry” but that’s for my brother and I – not my children! (click here).
HG is looking for an immigration lawyer. We’ve had a couple of suggestions from the always helpful SW12 Financial Advisor and the wonderful Nightingale. Thank you both! (click here).
I’d never heard of European summer camps for children until Camp Suisse got in touch. Then my daughter spent a week with them in July of this year. It was amazing, truly amazing – do check out our review if you’d like something a little different for your 7 to 17 year old! (click here).
We have an art apron full of nursery and education posts…
Bright Horizons Wandsworth gets a “glowing recommendation” from one of our very regular users – thanks for posting GD73! (click here). If you haven’t heard of Little Village I’m sure you will have soon. It’s an amazing initiative – a bit like a foodbank but for nursery, toys and baby equipment for children up to the age of 5 – please do support it if you can! (click here)
There is a sixth form information evening for the Bolingbroke School on the 23rd November, this is a new move for Bolingbroke and very very exciting – good luck! (click here).
MumofOne would love your feedback on Clapham primary schools, she lives on the Northside and wonders if you can give feedback on Wix, Macaulay and Heathbrook? (click here). We’ve had over 90 comments on this thread! Should DonJ plump for Streatham and Clapham or Thomas’s Battersea? (click here). Swaffield Nursery have posted details of their recent Ofsted report and their 2017 entrance arrangements – thanks Swaffield! (click here). Lastly, Fish01’s son is just on the waiting list for Thomas’s in Clapham – will he get a place, she asks? (click here).

We have more “House and Garden” questions than elves have toys!
I asked the wonderful Darlings of Chelsea if they could post some “love seat” pictures. Three beautiful pieces of furniture are the result and I want them all! (click here). SG has several table lamps that need rewiring, she is sure there is a great ‘leccy shop in Clapham South but she can’t remember the name! (click here). LoACA has a broken bi-fold lock. Any idea who could fix it? (click here). MS would love your carpenter recommendations, she needs a cupboard and a ladder made (click here). HC has posted details about buying the freehold from Wandsworth Borough Council (click here). IS is hoping to find a cost-effective kitchen fitter (click here). KK would love any suggestions for a party-wall surveyor who specializes in basement excavations? (click here). B. is after an electrician – the lights have “gone” on one floor (click here). Lastly, CC is looking for an window replacements (click here)
